Well our puppy gave us a scare on Saturday.....her face swelled up like a balloon and we weren't sure why! We were afraid her throat was going to also swell and she wouldn't be able to breath so we took her to the emergency vet. They believe she was stung by a bee, I guess Boxers are highly sensitive - we didn't know this! The vet gave her two shots and the swelling went down within an hour, they also gave us medicine to take home. They said this will happen again, it's the breed! Then today I took her to get spayed, poor baby !

My dog gets neutered in Nov. Mwahaha. I hope he gets one of those ridiculous cone things for his head! LOL. Crash into walls. My last dog didnt get to have one cuz he didnt lick the spot...probably because he was too stupid to realize we had him de-nutted. This dog may be slightly smarter...but then again...its a dog. At any rate...he finishes puppy obedience class on Thurs...yea...he learned nothing. Except to run through pretty blue tunnels and to eat treats. Good dog. heres a pic of my dog when we first got him.... www.angelfire.com/sd/wishy/tex.jpg

We don't have/want kids, so we consider our pets our children! We're the local weirdo's in town that's fer sure!
I was reading a person's message about their turtle Skipperdee--that's a riot! I loved that book and I named my pig Eloise, I call her Ellie for short. Don't get me wrong, I love my pig--love my pig, and would never mean that as an insult to that wonderful book.
I have pictures of our "kids" on a website link in my profile. They are literally my life, which is pretty pathetic to some, but to me they bring a smile to my face every day. Hmmm...I don't have a picture of "little" Ellie on that page. I'll have to work on that. She's about 300 pounds and she's one of those cute little pink piglets that are bred for meat, only I could NEVER kill her. She has her own little room in the barn and my husband and I tuck her in every night with her blankie and teddy bear. She's only about 9 months old but to me she'll always be my little piglet. She plays out in the pasture with the horses and folks are always slowing down to get a second look because they can't believe they're seeing a huge pig out with the horses! She loves Airhead candy and a few of the neighbors occasionally stop by to give her treats. She is one special piggy that's fer sure!
I'm awaiting a delivery of a custom made mailbox that will look very similar to our little Ellie. If the neighbors haven't guessed that we're freaks by now they will soon enough!
I loved reading about all your critters! I think people who don't have any sort of animal in their life are the weird ones!
Take care! --Kathy (aka Farm Girl)

i don't know how i've resisted talking about my babies for so long... bear with me, i love my kitties and i'd talk forever if allowed to!
three years ago, i got my baby girl wendy, a grey tiger striped female, from a coworker who found her on the side of the road. she's very shy and hides on the top of the fridge most of the time. she was only alone for a week or so, before her partner in crime, cj, came along.
one summer day, my ex-boyfriend and i were working in the backyard when we heard crazy, screechy noises. in the back window of an empty house (the owners had moved out a week previous, as we were moving in), a tiny white kitten was hanging spread-eagled on an upstairs screen. knowing the house was empty, we broke in to rescue the kittycat, who was scared and skinny and sick- he pulled through to be fat and lazy and crazy. he's named after the '78 jeep cj5 the the ex and i were working on when we discovered him. i don't miss the boyfriend, but, damnit, i loved that jeep!
a few months later, during a pretty heavy rainstorm, i was getting the mail and noticed a fuzzy thing hanging onto my neighbor's car tire. upon inspection, i found pigpen, a long haired orange and white boy. his emaciated body was shivering- covered with bugs and sticks embedded into his fur, with a broken leg and ripped-up ear. a little bit of luv later, he's fixed up and fuzzy and lazy and happy- but he hates to clean himself. the other cats wait until he sleeps, then hold him down to clean him- ergo, pigpen.
my sweet little shiny black kitty, norman pearle, came via walmart. someone dropped her off in the parking lot, and i discovered her dodging cars by the garden center. she was torn up and sick, as well, and i didn't honestly think that she would live. but, a year later, she's healthy and strong- but doesn't get along with any of the other cats. she hides in my spare bedroom most of the time, sleeping and sleeping and sleeping.
last year, my brother needed a place to stay, so he moved in with his cat, shit for brains. he's a bad cat and he gives me headaches, and i don't much like to talk about him.
finally, four weeks ago, during a really bad storm, i was leaving for work at midnight to find a freezing kitty huddled on my porch. i realize that i have too many cats already- but i felt so bad for her that i brought her into my house anyway. i didn't have time to clean her up right then, so i left her in my bedroom with some food and fresh water. i came home in the morning to find that the new cat had had two babies in the middle of my bed- on my new white down comforter and best bright white sheets, to boot. a few hours later, two more babies came, and now the little family lives in my bedroom- my regular cats are very jealous. they are five weeks old today, and soon they will need to go to other homes. i tried to not get attached, but i can't help it! i shouldn't have named them, but i did... tippy, sasha, luka, and buster. the mama is all black, and the babies are white and orange/brown and grey calico. the moment that i wake up in the morning, they all crawl up onto the bed and jump all around me- i've been late for work and school all week because i spend too much morning time playing with them. sigh- i'm gonna be heartbroken when it's time to give them away.
aside from my kitties, i have two water turtles, ford and onion. they are cute and funny, but require a lot of tank cleaning so that they don't smell. i got ford for christmas in 1997, and onion, his female counterpart, for valentines day 1998.
i have the feeling that i'm gonna grow up to be the crazy cat-lady in the neighborhood... i'll only leave my house twice a month, and small children will dare each other to knock on my door at halloween...

LMAO Firegirl! Your post is HILARIOUS! ;D
I love the line about your brothers cat! I'm sitting here at my 'puter at 5:30 in the morning busting a gut!
Seriously though, the animal world needs more folks like you. What a wonderful thing you did rescuing all those little kittys! Don't they just melt your heart? I swear animals that have been brought back from the brink ALWAYS remember that kindness and make the best friends.
Take care of yourself and your "kids" and give them all a round of kisses for me--even the turtles ;D

I just love all the discussions on this board!
We have a few pets... First there's Dingo, he's a 4 year old Australian Cattle Dog. We were told he'd be a puppy for only 10 years or so, so he's getting there! ;D He will play frisbee or ball until YOU get tired and insists on riding shotgun in the car for ANY road trip... doesn't matter if there is anyone ELSE sitting in that seat too, he's going to sit there with ya!
We also have a 5 year old Guinea Pig named Bopie. Bopie is totally blind, but gets along really well! She lives in a big sheep watering trough that's up in our loft... and she can hear you open the fridge door and rattle around with any plastic produce bag from the grocery store and will whistle her demand for veggies... She loves tomatos, oranges and lettuce.
Finally, we have a small fish tank with the nastiest Beta ever. He's killed my other fish, my 2 frogs, a plecostomus and he even picked a snail to death right out of his shell!! We're just waiting for him to croak really, but he's as healthy as can be, so I think he'll be around for a while. He really is beautiful and fun to look at, but he's just plain mean... He spends most of his time fighting with his own reflection in the tank heater....

this thread cracked me up! First the "thingyatoos... c o c k atoos" censoring, then Incubabe says something about her dog being "de-nutted" haha!
I have two little hot dogs (incubabe, yours is beautiful!). Although they are pains in the butt, they have wonderful personalities and I love them to death. My older weiner, Bailey, is in the hospital right now because he has some sort of obstruction in his digestive system and they are probably going to do surgery... I'm so worried! But this dog has been dropped numerous times as a puppy, hit by a car, fallen down the stairs, eaten half a pound of dark chocolate, and survived it all. So I bet he'll be ok! Please send happy thoughts his way, since he's probably lonely and confused right now.

WOW, love this post also.
Love the pic's Incubabe. I used to buy those bones for our Lab's when they were alive. Used to tell the neighbors that was the last meter guy that didn't knock. hehehe
However, currently, all the pets belong to our little girl. Most of you know her by now, since her eye surgeory at 5 weeks, and all the trials and tribulations that followed, we have spoiled her still to this day.
To date, she has a cat named smokey. My wife and I had cats, so we couldn't resist. Brieanna however said she wanted one, so, well it's here. She torments this poor thing constantly. Thinks its a stuffed animal at times, hugging, smothering, and chasing. Our two year old son Daniel has taken to throwing his Hotwheels at the cat, gets a kick out of watching him jump and run. (we are trying to break him of that, but we get caught up laughing every once and a while, so we loose ground there)
We have a hampster. It has been taken to school countless times, and a habitrail that goes all over one side of her room. He used to bite here from time to time, however she isn't afraid him any more. He has helped the most with slowing her picking. We just get tired of chasing him around the house since her vision is so poor. She gets glued to a cartoon while petting him, and he wonders off. With the cat lurking around, the house gets really wild then. Home funniest would love to video tape a few hours of that mess.
We have a new dog, shadow. Now three months old, had to give my wife something else to do. Ouch, she would slug me if she saw this. Still trying to house break this one. She puts up with him though because he reminds her of our old Labradors. Both died recently with all our moving around. She loved those dogs. We have the urns in the front room to remind us. The were great dogs, Ben and Jake.
We just got a new mouse. We actually had two, one died. This one has been to school twice, and I expect a number of visits to come. Like most of her smaller pets, she had to have him because of the spots. Brieanna love the 101 dalmations. So with the pets, she has almost 101 stuffed spotted puppies. It figures right. Ouch.
And then theres the Death tank. Most of you would call a fish tank, however we just can't keep them alive for too long. Yes, I know it's cruel. My wife has everything possible to keep them alive, however it seems like we turn our back for a minute and one dies. Were on two weeks no and no casualties. Were keeping our fingers crossed. Oh, how many you say, today around 12. And yes, my wife has separated the beta, she likes that one the most and works hard keeping him alive.
We just released the lizard. It had to go to school for another show and tell.
The Moth died.
The snake died.
I made her release the bird. He happened to fly in the playroom. So it's still a pet, just flying outside and eating natural food. (really didn't want that expense too)
And like most of you, kids act like pets, and my wife needs petting from time to time. And yes, she would say I'm a pet. Constantly needing feeding, grooming, and other pet duties.
Well, that's it for today, tomorrow will be another story. Never a dull moment around here. We can't wait till my son gets older, I can only imagine what pets he will want, or find and bring home. UGH.
Have fun with all your pets. Especially the ones on two legs.

I've always loved animals and felt a certain kinship with them that I can't seem to find with humans, and as a result of that kinship, I went to college & graduated with a certification as a veterinary assistant. Let me say, it's great to see so many weiner dogs! I've had mine (a standard), Dinsdale Piranha, since I was 14. I'm 22 now - this coming August 3rd will mark 9 full years together. I got him at 8 months (his 9th birthday is January 3rd/05). He's had almost every ailment typical of the breed - Periodontis, IVDD, obesity - he's lost 6 lbs. since October, and the fun one, epilepsy. Other animals in the family are Murphy, the German Shepherd/Standard Poodle X, Sophie, the purebred Bouvier, Kitty Boy the grey/black tabby, Pumpkin, the orange tabby (she's a grade-A bitch, too), & Thunder, the grey DSH. Recently, my brother and his girlfriend lost their Leopard Gecko, Slippy, to an infection. If anyone has any questions related to animal health, etc., let me know. I'd be happy to help.
