I am a huge reader and love to write.... I just finished The Jungle by Upton Sinclair about the stockyards in CHicago in the 1900's and before... the other day i was walking by my neighbors house and looked and there was a box filled to the rim with all these classics that she was going to throw away!@! lol i almost had a heart attack.. so i promptly went and saved them... a lot are college books from liek Michigan State that someone in that house must have stolen during their stay ( they say M.S>U. library...) lol ... the best kinda kleptomaniacs are the ones that steal books! Anyway, i was just wondering if anyone else is as big of a reader as i am... and if so what r u reading?

daisy, i am also a big reader! i just finished reading a book titled "Autobiography of a Face". it's about a lady who spent her entire life dealing with not looking like veryone else. when she was a little girl she ran into another girl during soccer practice and her injury becmame so complicated that part of her jaw had to be removed. so for the rest of her life she was going back to the hospital to have operartions on her jaw, to reconstruct it. also, for several years she also had cancer, so she had chemotherapy. she said that to her, her cancer was nothing compared to how she felt about her face. i got the book because i could relate to her desire to want to look "perfect". although i'm always reminding myself of what's important and what isn't important at all. looks are not. the heart is. : )
sorry that was so long. i just love talking about my books! : )

hi!
I like reading too...I'm trying to do more of it now that I'm not working.
I just read "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry. I read all 750 pages in 3 days! It's one of those books with an amazing plot and realistic characters and themes that make you rethink your own life...amazing. It was on Oprah's book list a couple years ago.
Right now, I'm reading "How to be Good" by Nick Hornby. He wrote "About a Boy" and "High Fidelity", both of which became movies! He's a British writer and so clever and laugh-out-loud funny.
oh, I also love nonfiction, especially autobiographies of people who have overcome personal struggles. ready2heal, I'm definitely gonna check out "Autobiography of a Face". Thanks!

I've been reading books like crazy this summer. I just graduated, so being able to read something other than textbooks is a real treat. I read "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Animal Husbandry" last week. I'm trying to read some of Nietzsche and Simone Weil's works but they're pretty hard to digest after novels. I'm determined though --- there's so much to learn!

Maybe we should all start picking UP at book instead of picking AT our faces (problem being that I pick way too much when I am reading, 'cause I don't realize it). Anyway. I'm a big bookworm. The last book that I read that I totally fell in love with was Empire Falls by Richard Russo. It won the Pulitzer Prize last year, I believe. Because of my background in Russian literature, I totally love Vladimir Nabokov. Honsestly, no matter how creepy you think the subject is, you all must read Lolita. It's stunningly well written. Looking for something light? The Bridget Jones books are awesome! So damn funny with a main character so easy for any woman to see herself in. One of my favorite "classics" of sorts is Return of the Native. If you want uplifting, try Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom. And if you just want good fiction, read ANYTHING by John Irving. Especially A Prayer for Owen Meany and The Cider House Rules. We can start our very own CSP book club!

p.s. Scarreddaisy, we'll have to talk writing sometime. It's a love of mine, too. My best friend and I have combined to write a novel/serial that we post onto a website. We're over 300 chapters (!) into it.

I have heard of Lolita... havent had a chance to read it though... seriously Borders has at least $500 of mine from allt he books I have purchased... I need to find a used book store of go broke.. An awesome book I read once is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood... its about the world going to pieces and women losing all their rights... it is a scary book.. because its fesible...Ive read it twice... ha and a fun read i read last year is the Princess Bride by Wililam Goldman... haha it is the funniest book..totally off key. Canuck, 300 Chapters! Wow that is impresssive... It has always been something I have been good at... I have always been in the honors classes for it and can't stand when people write incorrectly.. haha .. freinds would ask me to proofread their papers... and it took everything in me not to say.... oook then.. lets start over. What was kinda cool though is that the teacher i had had a MUCH higher expectation of me because she knew I knew how to write well so I was always challeneged while everyoe else got away with mediocre... hehe. I'm such a perfectionist too... I have spent hours on a paragraph fine tuning it.. haha I'm a chronic dork! I'd love to read some of your stuff. I havent written in a while... havent been "inspired" to do so... but school is starting up at the end of August ( college...ahhh! ) so hopefully I will get back into it. It is so cool to find others that enjoy this stuff!

Canuck, 300 Chapters! Wow that is impresssive... They're 300 short chapters, though. Not like chapters in a book. Once I revamp our webpage, I'll have to send you the link and you can check up on my writing skill (or lack of!). Definitely take the time to read Lolita. How close are you to Detroit? I know that there is supposed to be this fabulous used bookstore right in downtown Detroit that known all across the country for being really huge. I'll see if my mom knows the name of it...

Daisy- I'm not sure where exactly you live in the area but the book store is right by the MGM Grand Casino. It is on Layfette right off of the Lodge Fwy. I had jury duty at the Federal Court House and would pass it every day....I was on jury duty for a month and a half Carree

Currently, I am slowly trudging through the latest installment of Harry Potter. I usually read before bed, but have been really tired for the past couple months!
Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister are also really good, the author is Gregory Maguire. They are great books! One is the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of Oz. And the other one is obviously a spin-off from Cinderella.
I like a lot of true crime and forensics. People cease to amaze me! The last one I read was the Jack the Ripper book by Patricia Cornwell...I have read many books about Jack.
I also read Confessions of a Dangerous Mind by Chuck Barris, host of the Gong Show and creator of the Dating Game and the Newlywed Game. It was pretty good...the first part was hard to get through, but once the story picked up, all was well.
I am also a fan of children's literature. I love the classics like Secret Garden. And I love Roald Dahl, Lemony Snicket, Betty MacDonald...sometimes it's more fun to read silly, fantastical things than it is to read a heavy drama!
All you writers! It's so funny, my sis and I have an idea about writing a book on pregnancy, since there is SO much no one ever tells you!
