This is something that my shrink suggested: when I'm feeling for a rough spot on my face to pick, rub Vitamin E on it instead. Break open a capsule and put it on the area. Not only does it make the skin smooth but it also helps the healing process. It satisfies the urge to touch my face in a soothing way instead of a destructive way.

I don't know the cost of Vit E capsules. But I suppose by know everybody knows that Vit E heals. I asked the pharmacist today what she suggested.
She said that creams and lotions absorb too quickly into the skin. As soon as the greasy feeling disappears, the picking starts again.
She suggested using an ointment because ointment stays on top of the skin - seems like forever - makes it next to impossible to pick. So I followed instructions and found an ointment called Vitamin E ointment by Webber. It's about $7 bucks for 50 g and I know that is expensive. But I figure I have picked for so many years, I am willing to invest the $$ just to even get the picks to heal then I am half way there!!! After the scabs disappear, I might have to use the stuff for a while to help the scars AND then I will try to switch to something a little less expensive.
Anyway, here's the scoop: I bought the ointment today and starting using it at 2:00 p.m. Whenever I feel the urge to pick, I just dab a tiny amount of this stuff on.
I don't know about anybody else, but it seems when the wound gets to the scab stage (which is the first stage in healing) that's when I pick the scab off, it bleeds and then I start all over again.....
And here is the good news: IN 3 MORE HOURS, I WILL HAVE GONE 24 HOURS WITHOUT PICKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The vitamin e capsules are the same ones that you would take orally. They are kind of like a gel capsule. I just break the surface and squeeze out the stuff and then apply to the face. Hope this helps! Susan

You'll find Vitamin E with the other vitamins at the grocery store or anywhere else that sells them. I just started using it again and I think it really helps the healing process, especially on hard scabs. The hard ones are really hard for me to resist picking ,and the Vitamin E seems to make them softer.

Thanks for the tip! I've been using vitamin E oil on my picking scars, and it is supposed to help reduce wrinkles as another benefit. However, I was a little afraid to put it all over my face since l thought it would make me break out. Now I assume this oil is this the same thing as getting it from the capsules or as an ointment. Has anyone else had any trouble with breaking out from vitaimin E? I think in the meantime I'm going to try this anyway (what could be worse on my face than what I do to it already!?), and I'll report back if I can remember to.

I tried a vitamin e ointment and it made me break out. So far so good with the capsules. I just spot treat with them, not all over the face. Susan
