What about permanent white scars on thicker body skin? Would rubbing vitamin E into those help reduce their visibility or anything? I have chest and back scarring from years of relentless picking and I am so shy about people seeing the scars. It's embarrassing. Maybe no one notices or cares, but they seem gross and obvious and shameful to me. I should ask the opinion of a close friend.

It depends on what kind of oil. Soybean, safflower, and sunflower probably won't make you break out. Watch out for coconut oil. One of my favorite sites is www.zerozits.comIt has a list of ingredients and rates them from 0-5 on irritancy and comedogenicity (pore-clogging ability). Go to the buttons at the top of the page, click on articles, then click on "become an acne detective" Don't make yourself crazy w/it though...I have a tendency to become obsessed with ingredients....

I've been using vitamin E ointment for a long while now, and it works wonders. I always have the urge to pick at night before I sleep, so I keep the pot beside my bed, and if I want to pick, I just reach over and glob more onto my face. I usually end up covering my whole upper body, practically. I've never broken out from it, luckily, but it does help my face heal quicker, and since the ointment says gooey, I can just rub it around for hours until the urge goes away. I don't know if it helps my scars heal at all, but my face doesn't really scar too much, so I can't really say.
