I only pick my face, so for me it must have been around a month when I would keep picking off the scab.
After a month I would usually be able to restrain myself, cause it's on the face and really visible...

I had one on my forehead for about two or three weeks... the problem with it was that it was never a scab, it was constantly just this sticky weeping gash. Idput so much make up on it, which would make it all soggy and gross. I have a big indent now where it used to be. It was so embarrassing!

lauryn, so how many and how big are these wounds on your face? did they get infected and did u go to a derm? and did u use any antibiotic?
i'm asking you cause my big wounds on my face usually last 1-2 months..and always get infected and i always have to use oral antibiotic. i did have one on my face that lasted like 3 months. they get really deep and take a really long time.

My wounds would get infected sometimes, I would just use neosporin and the infection would go away on its own, eventually (without going to the derm).
There were times when I would cover the wounds with make up and go about my business feeling hideous and not making eye contact. There were other times when I would stay at home because of them. When I was in college, I could skip a week because of it. At work, the longest I was "sick" was 4 days.
I found that I felt better when I've gone out (to school, work) even though I looked hideous. At least I thought that I wasn't letting this rule my life. Even though it still kind of ruled my life because I was constantly aware of it and felt miserable and not good enough.

Hello, Probably 6 months on two particular scabs I'm thinking about. Funny how we get so "attached" to certain leisions, isn't it?
Btw, I couldn't get those two picks to heal in for ever, it seems. They are still there too because of the scarring. Dang.
I actually left this group once already about 7 months or so ago. I left thinking I could get rid of this disorder on my own. The picking issues got better for me, and I had 75% cleared up. Then a situation occurred to get me upset, and I started picking again , and this time more vigorously (making up for lost time , I guess)
So here I am again. Back to the F # SP Group.
I'm so mad at myself because I had so many of the picks healed ,and the scars were just going away. Then in 2 days, I was back to square one. Is there any hope for us?

I know- it's so, so frustrating. And upsetting, to see your skin go from lovely to hideous just because of a few days lapse. I'm feeling that way myself right now- it's hellish. I stayed inside all day so I wouldn't have to face the world. It seems so unfair to have to suffer such harsh immediate consequences just for falling off the wagon for a couple of days in a time of stress.
Still, I do think there's hope! You did so well for a long time- you can do it again. If we take good care of ourselves and do what we know works for us, we can heal the damage and look nice again...

I think I have had certain scabs for years on my scalp. My current one is at least a year old but it does not scab up very well now and I can often leave it alone. The bad news is I have just started tending another one. It may of started as a mosquito bite. Wish me luck controlling myself.

Wow, I must have alot in common with many of you.
"PickPick" I have a pimple on my scalp right now too! Ouch!..... And I fear it may turn into another picking session for me soon. Ugh! Great thing about a scalp wound, is that hair will cover it up. (I hope)
Also, amazing you should mention that mosquito bite. I may be hallucinating, but a few of my scab-wounds started out as mosquito bites ( I think) .
After those experiences, I'm now afraid to get bit by a mosquito , for fear I may pick it , and then it'll become yet another "pick project".
I have "pick projects" on my body--mostly my legs, and arms . It's kinda funny if I think of it, but then, I also wanna cry because of it.
Picking is like a roller coaster ride for me.
It can make me soo depressed.
I was watching TV tonight and saw all these beautiful actresses wearing low back skimpy gowns on Entertainment Tonight, and I was analyzing their arms and backs. ... but dang, I could not find even one scar or pimple on those movie stars' bodies! LOL!
Wonder if some famous people are pickers too? Or are we the only ones that have to suffer like this? ** Lin

Colin Farrell rips his hair out (trichotillomania). I don't know of any others that have similar problems. He mentioned that he would go into a "zone" and have a bunch of bald patches from pulling his hair out one at a time. I don't know what he did to stop it, though.

Nina , Interesting. I wonder if some famous people hide their wound-scars with Tatoos too? Example, I was watching the ELLEN show and Angelina Jolie just got her 17th Tatoo. She has them practically all over her body now.
I guess that would be one way to hide the scar.
Sorry to get off subject like this. It's just that I don't see too many scarred-up people out there,--- especially famous people. So maybe they hide their scars well. (better than me)
My scars are mostly on my arms and legs, so it limits my ability to wear shorts and tank tops. It's frustrating to say the least.
I can try covering my scars with some of the suggestions given on other threads though.( Thxs so much for those suggestions everybody. I wrote down all the products mentioned).
So maybe until my scars heal (though some look to be permanent ofcourse) I guess I can wear make-up all over my body.
I wish they made Calamine Lotion is other colors aside from clear and hot pink. I love that stuff because for me, it feels good on my legs & arms. It's so sooting and cool.
Txs for listening.
So glad you are all here. Sigh. I know how everybody on this Board feels.

Over a year, on my scalp. A constant cycle of pick-heal pick-heal. Finally I managed to leave it alone permanently.
