After I have been picking for ages I wont let people see me. I'll hide in my room. I won't open the door if someone comes around. One time my Mum locked herself out by accident and was standing there with her friend, ringing the doorbell waiting for me to open the door. But I just could NOT do it!! :cry:

5 years ago I did a 2 year course in professional make-up so I am extremely lucky that, if I do have to go out I can cover it up! But, it's not even that simple!!

It takes me up to 4 hours sometimes to do my make-up. To cover up the abrasions on my face and disguise the blemishes I have caused.

I'm lucky that i haven't scarred my face really. The wounds I create are temporary but because I do them almost every other day, they never ever go. So my face is constantly sore.

Because of this, I haven't left the house without make-up for 5 years!! I got an obsession with foundation, to cover my skin and then concealers.

I now use an amazing concealer called Dermablend, which I get from my doctor. It's used for scars or blemishes for people with skin problems and the like. So, if anyone else wants to know how to cover their blemishes or skin problems........see your doctor about dermablend!!

On my prescription I get:

Dermablend Cover Creme (my colour is Pale Ivory)



You cover the blemish with this and then use

Dermablend Setting Powder (no colour....transparent)



You put this over the creme and it sets it in place!! It's been the source of my sanity and helped me so much for a long time now!! I highly recommend it to anyone!!

i just discovered my new and final choice for makeup the other day. i am using physicians formula magic cube and green cover stick. i dont have to wear it everywhere so i have less a chance of causing new zits. the light color is perfect for my skin and you can hardly tell i have it on. in fact the second day i had it i got a compliment on my skin from someone i work with. im sure your dermablend is working for you but i just thought i would let other people know about this as well.

I haven't been out of the house without makeup for at least 10 years hehe

I think my mum used to use Dermablend when I was younger, if I can remember correctly it could have been that cream that I first tried using as a foundation when I didn't really know much about makeup, it's fairly thick and doesn't budge and it is a great camoflager if you can find a colour that matches.

What's frustrating is when I have had to go and find a foundation that matched my face as I am fairly pale and 99% of foundations and concealers in Australia are for more tanned coloured skin; I found a great concealer a few years ago by Almay called Almay Cover-stick (light) but a year ago they stopped stocking most Almay products here and I can't get it anymore. So I found a new one called Australis Concealer (light). Another concealer I use just at home is Maybelline Cover-stick (ivory) which is great. The foundation I use now is Max Factor Performance (pale porcelain), I used to wear the foundation all over my skin but I got the courage to just wear it where I needed coverage (blemishes, scars, etc) as most of my face is okay without makeup on. So my going out makeup regime consists of foundation/concealer/talcum powder (to keep the other two in place). If only there was a magic cream/lotion that got rid of redness I would be a very happy camper

i also have a lot of trouble finding makeup that covers and actually looks natural. coz when u want to put a lot of layers on they tend to look orange and cakey..ive tried nearly all the foundations and used to use the expensive brands thinking they had to be the best... but found the most perfect one try the new covergirl tru-blend. its bloody cheap but it matches so perfectly that it looks completely natural and coz it matches u dont have to smear it over your whole face to match. therefore letting the good sections stay makeup free and so less prone to more breakouts.

trust me im so worried that they wont stock it after a while that i buy a couple at a time .. im in australia also , i bought it at big w of all places.

My tip - green concealer. Green diminishes the red in your skin. I also use Revlon Colorstay which stays on all day. It helps a lot.

I ran right out and bought Dermablend - this stuff is great!!! It can be purchased without a prescription at Macys, Dillards, Robinsons May etc... or online at dermablend.com. It works wonderfully to cover scars, redness, pigment probs. So far though, it won't cover my really bad picked at open wound type places (understandably).

Digitalgirl - am I supposed to wait for the cover cream to settle/dry before putting on the powder? The powder application sometimes disrupts the area I worked so hard to cover. Maybe I am too rough with my dab/pat technique.
