Hi folks. I've been picking at my skin for 10 years and was hoping to get your input on meds. and dermatillomania. Is there a cure-all for this disorder? Any amazing stories? I would be so fantastic if a drug could put an end to all of this. Thanks.  |

The medications that make the most sense are known as SSRIs for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. This includes well known drugs like Prozac and Paxil. They are suggested because skin picking is seen as like or related to obsessive compulsive disorder and these drugs are important treatments for OCD.
However the results are not as good as with OCD and many people report little benefit. Some people report skin picking gets worse or even appears for the first time when taking medicaitons in this class.
