Wondering if anyone on here has ever had a chemical peel. I have some old scars that I'd like to get rid of and I've heard these things might work. Anyone?

i have heard that those can do wayyyyy more damage than good and that people have been severely scarred for life from having one... I would research it on the internet maybe before even considering it... they can be dangerous

i know this topic is from a while back but I wanted to reply because i can offer you some information. Actually, I just recently had a chemical peel. The dermatologist said to me that the chemical peels are something that is done several times sover a period of time before you can see results from it. This is the procedure: Someone takes a little sponge-like thing and dips it into the chemical. then, they rub it on your face. you'll feel stinging/burning for 5 or 10 minutes (it gradually goes away) and it's not horrible burning.. but not pleasant either. and once the stinging is gone your face will be red for maybe 1-2 hours. and i got a slight burn from it too, just on one part of my face. and in a couple days that went away too. i am someone who has many many scars on my face, and one chemical peel didn't make any difference in their appearane. maybe several of them would help... not sure. but for the scars on my face, my dermatologist suggested laser surgery. It's not cheap, but he said there are no side affects! Your face will be scar free, and that's it! it doesnt even hurt. the only thing is, they can't do your whole face all at once. this is because the actual surgury closes up your blood vessels in your face ( that's whats gets rid of the scarring) and if you do the ENTIRE face all at once, you won't have any blood flow in there! I hope this helps someone.

You can get chemical peels and laser surgery from most dermotoligists these days. Yes it is costly and yes you do need several of them to see any changes. There are so many procedures and different types of peels dermos are doing these days. The laser surgery I got for broken blood vessels around my nose helped. Do research ask questions and save your money. When I get a little older and when I do stop picking m,y face I am going for the whole works, some way or another I will find the money, but that's only if I stop picking my face or lessen the amount of picking I do alot. That will be my reward to myself. If I spens a whole lot of money and continue to pick it is a waste..
I wanted to say thank you to everyone who replied to my previous message. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I have been picking a little less.
