A professor showed it to us in class yesterday, and I thought it could be a useful thing for all of us to see.
It's really easy to compare yourself to a standard that's so high it doesn't even exist. That's my problem, anyway.

Teresa,
Airbrushing is a technique used to fix up photos so that the subject of them looks more flawless than is even humanly possible! Most pictures in magazines and in advertisements have been airbrushed in some way. We were discussing airbrushing in my class in relation to the standard women often hold themselves to -- to pictures of models that essentially aren't even real!
I thought it might be interesting for some of us to look at because I know that the image of perfection in the media definitely tends to make my picking even more severe, as I try to "fix" myself to look like those perfect girls on TV and in magazines -- when in reality, I'm doing the opposite of that.

that was...freaky!! i thought makeup is mostly used to covered mostly everything for models, and then a little airbrushing to fix a mole or some teeth..but whoah..that really puts things into perspective. i want to see a picture of myself airbrushed too now!

Heh, I showed that to my daughter who is always saying she is "too fat" or worried about something on her that isn't "perfect"....
I think it definitely put a new perspective on the perfect model theory she had..
Thank you for sharing that!!

Oh, good. Perspective was exactly what I was hoping ya'll would gain by seeing that website. When my professor showed it to me, I couldn't help but think of all of us (and actually, I couldn't help but think about what a scabby mess my face would be if I had the model's complexion!). We're not on a page. We're people. And people aren't airbushed pictures.
