Medication and Therapy are a great team to help you against your picking. The two together is what helps most. I meet with a counselor once a week. It's great to have someone to talk to about picking and all the other stressors in my life. Medication helps with the urges and to have more control over how much and for how long you pick. The medication doens't make the picking stop (or at least for me it didn't), however, instead of picking a dozen times a day or for hours at a time, I pick once or twice a day for a few minutes. Thats the best way to explain it. The anti depressant Lexapro has helped for me most.

Hi Jenni, I agree that the two methods do work best together. I tried Lexapro but it did not work for me. I'm on Effexor and recently tried to lower my dose and had very stressful events happen and bam I had the most painful pick session ever. I'm still healing from. Needless to say I'm on the regular dose and doing much better. Meds. don't stop the picking for me but I can say no easier. The side effects with Effexor are horrible if you have to get off of it. I would like to one day when my life is not so stressful be off Meds. all together. Take Care, sos

I am on Paxil right now for my anxiety, depression and social phobia and it does not help with CSP. I want to try Luvox but my last psychiatrist was an ass. I have my 1st app. with new psychiatrist on Wednesday and want to try something else. I have pretty much tried every anti-depressant though and i get bad side effects. Maybe i will try Lexapro. I am also in therepy which is helping a lot.
