Ugh, I picked at a bump on my jaw yesterday...well I squeezed it forever & got nothing. Of course today it's HUGE & hurts like crazy... Anyone know of something to help with the swelling? I've used toothpaste before but only overnight...I really hate the idea of going to the store with a big white blotch on my jaw...I can hear it now "Hey lady, did you know you have something on your face??" Ouch ouch ouch...off to find my cover-up Karla B.

Those are the worst!! I wish I had the answer, my problem is that I usually won't leave them alone until I do get something out of them - sometimes it takes days!! Just can't seem to keep my hands off! Sorry I couldn't help! Carree

Ouchie! Carree is right, those are definitely the worst. When I have that problem, I usually rub an ice cube on it. The ice helps to reduce the swelling and it numbs the area, so that I can stop fixating on it, for at least a little while. Rubbing on the ice also allows me to touch the area (even if it's through the cube), which is exactly what I'd be doing if there wasn't an ice cube in my hand -- and the ice is obviously cleaner and more beneficial than my fingers. You can try popping an asprin or another anti-inflamatory, too, to kill a little bit of the pain and swelling.

Now if only I could keep my hands off it!! I almost ran into an oncoming car because I saw the darn thing in the rearview mirror & started messing with it :/ For about 3 seconds I thought of picking it w/a needle but I'm too much of a wimp for that...I guess it's just going to drive me nuts for now Thanks everyone...I will have to try the ice & hope I can leave it alone for 20 minutes... Karla B.

Karla, you are so NOT alone - I attacked a bump (that I think I started myself by just squeezing the pores) on my chin, and it was red and swollen. I've tried ice before, and it does help. This time around, I used visine to take out the red, alcohol to try to dry it out, and used the neosporin ointment at night.
I keep touching this damned thing - and I keep saying to myself, "yes, it's still there, why on earth do you have to feel it again?"
(just did it again!)
Hang in there, hopefully these will go away soon.

i would suggesta hot compress for the bump.. ive had zits like that ... taht turend into infected pores.. a hot compress softens whatever is in there and bring it to the surface... it'll drive you crazy till its off your face... so what i do it usually put a mug of water in the microwave for abotu 2 minutes so its pretty hot... and then take either a wash cloth or a cotton balls and apply it to the bump... of course if its too hot i cant stand it i wait.. i usually end up killing the very first layr of my epedermis which just flakes off liek dry skin ( no scar..not deep enough) and i apply a bandaid with nesporing at night to fight infection and swelling... a lot of the time swelling is a sign of a) healing b) possible infection...

I do the same thing as scarreddaisy... I use a compress. Yes, you must be careful, but it's a good way to keep your hands off your face. I find it takes down the swelling and speeds the renewal of skin. Try to let it dry out between compresses, so the cycle is faster.
