Anyone like John Mayer? I am a big fan, and think sometimes his songs sort of help the picking. Weird I know! A song on his new album 'New Deep" where I think he is talking about becoming a better person, and making the conscious effort to change yourself! Maybe I am reading to much into it, but heck, the good tunes are relaxing and make me think of something else!

CuseFan, Check out the thread entitled "Guys With Guitar," for talk about Mr. Mayer and other very talented JMs. Here's the link: facepick.proboards6.com/index.cgi?board=GD&action=display&n=1&thread=594 I love "New Deep," and the rest of Heavier Things, though I'm actually pretty sure that Mayer wrote "New Deep" in a sarcastic sort of tone. ...read it in a few different articles. Oh, and while I'm at it: welcome to the board. ;D

AHH! I knew I would love it here! Thanks for the tread. I love all those guys mentioned too (Guster, David Grey...etc!). Where do you find out what Mayer's songs are actually about? I always misinterpret them. 9 concerts?!?! Very jealous. Only one, but amazing....except for all the ga ga 'I LOVE JOHN MAYER" screaming girls around me!

You know, your absolutely right! For some reason, when he sings, he like turns into a frog of some sort. He is stomping his legs, and like contorting his face all over the darn place! Its absolutely hillarious. Not that I would mind him giving me a private concert!

Where do you find out what Mayer's songs are actually about? He isn't too shy to talk about them, actually. John likes to talk in concert, and he frequently mentions the source of his songs in interviews. Split Screen Sadness, for instance, is about his short-lived relationship with Jennifer Love Hewitt (per an Entertainment Weekly article I can't find now). Here's a few examples, and a few links: On Something's Missing: “You ever have that thought that bums you out? You have a thought that bums you out, and you’re bummed out by the thought, but the thought escapes you, so all you’re left with is being bummed out, but you can’t remember what it is that bummed you out in the first place, so you spend time going back in your mind trying to figure out why you’re not looking forward to Tuesday, whatever Tuesday is. You’re like, ‘What’s wrong with Tuesday? It hasn’t even happened yet and I’m already freaked out about it.’ Well, this song is kind of about going back in your head and making a list and checking it twice and making…that was a holiday reference in the middle of summer. <claps> Let's hear it for me. So anyway, this is a song called ‘Something’s Missing,’ ‘cause sometimes it just is.”An intro to No Such Thing: freshman year, momma asked what do ya wanna do when you get outta here i said, "well gee, I'm only 13, but i think i'd like to play my guitar...be a star" she said, "well thats not an answer you've got time to go...good sense will kick in any time you know. I'm not worried, no I'm not worried." sophomore year she asked the same old thing, my answer had remained unchanged i saw her fidget with her thumbs she said, "you like computers, john. you like computers, don't you john? you know i always see you with a computer, you like computers. maybe you should do something with computers...yeah, wouldn't that be nice." junior year, it's a little more intense she says, "whaddya wanna do with your life?" I'm on the fence i don't know exactly what i am to be. i mean I'm only 17... she says, "well, all i ask is that you pay attention in class so if your happen to change your mind in time you can still go somewhere reputable....and do us proud." so i went downstairs, and i played guitar loud. senior year, same old questions, she said, "what to you wanna do?" i said, "play my guitar and sing..." she said, "there's no such thing...there's no such thing, yeah"Here's a couple of quote pages: www.geocities.com/jm_colorblind/quotes1.htmlwww.keriberi.com/johnmayer/classic.html
