Well, I finally started taking my Zoloft last week (thanks FarmGirl for the motivation!) and I was just curious to see how long it took for you all to feel better, or any noticeable differences in picking habits or anything.
I was told it could take anywhere from 2-8 weeks (to months) for the medication to have an effect. Just wanted to hear feedback from people who have actually taken the stuff!

I've been taking it for about four months. It seemed to have kicked in during the first week for me.
It helped in other areas (depression, worrying, etc.) but the picking sessions don't seem to have let up. Good luck with it.

Hi:
I went on Prozac which is also a serotonin reuptake inhibitor...kind of like a sister to Zoloft interms of class of drugs and pharmacology.
Anyway, I have to really monitor it because it can cause me to pick in places I haven't picked before, like my hands. My psychiatrist said that this is a reported phenomena with these classes of drugs. I took me 3 months before i began to fell like I was the same species as other people. I felt spacey the first month and then things started getting better. Keep in mind that for some people SSRIs can exacerbate some picking behavior so definately don't accept just anything from your psychiatrist. Try to be your own advocate.
Sorry to preach.

I do not take it now but I used to take Zoloft and I noticed effects within days. It was not negative or positive, just different. I also think it is curious that they tell us it will take so long to notice anything, because SSRIs start taking effect on the brain within hours. I just learned that recently, and in my experience they worked very quickly. Everyone is different so you never know. Hope you find the meds helpful, I certainly did. Take care, Julie.
