hey!
i have suffered with compulsive skin picking for years. its caused me blood sweat and tears, literally. i dont need to explain, you all know how horrid it is!!!
i have had cognitive behaviural therapy, anti cumpulsion drugs, tryed a course of antidepressants, habit reversal training, seen a psychiatrist, a therapist, had hypno therapy, worn gloves, removed mirrors and "tools" used to pick, made reward charts to encourage myself, you name it, ive tryed it. nothing worked. nothing even felt like it was working.
then i went to see a man who practises neural linguistic programing. for 20 minutes. and havent picked since.
i can touch my face and feel the rough surface of spots etc, and nothing, no urge to remove them. the very same day i had the therapy i was having an argument with my boyfriend, got drunk, and watched a film, which are the worst triggers for me, and... nothing. at first i still had the occasion thought to do it, but i didnt carry it through, i wasnt sweating, tingling etc (i guess i dont need to tell you how hard it is to stop yourself!)i was simply chosing not to do it. easy as that, like choosing weather to put your slippers on or not (or somthing else equally as unimportant!!!) I was in control of IT. i totally stopped obsessing about how i look, etc. i even tryed to pick to test it, i stood in front of a mirror, looking and touching the marks, urging myealf to pick, but i simply couldnt bring myself to-it seemd so pointless, it was like "why would i want to do that?". from the first day it was like i was thinking about somthing i used to do rather than somthing i do.
im sorry this isnt very articulate.if you could see my beautiful clear skin it would speak for itself!!! but please please if you are suffering like i was give it a try. i know how horrid it is, how black you can feel, but, my life has turned around, I HAVE STOPPED PICKING , its called neural linguistic programming, refered to as NLP for short. its worth a shot at least!
good luck

Wow, I'm so happy for you! It's nice to hear that someone is cured because there are so many of us that are still searching for the cure. At the same time, thank you for trying to help the rest of us that are not where you are. I have tried many different things also. I've tried hypnosis I was soooo happy b/c I saw a big difference just in one session. I got sooo excited and hopeful thinking "this is it" this is it, my life will now begin and be so different to what it is now. Sadly, in the end it wasn't the cure. Although it helped some, I only picked less than I did before, but now it's about the same as it was before the hypnosis. I have also tried cutting my nails really short, avoiding the mirror, not turning the lights on when I brush my teeth in front of the bathroom mirror, etc. etc. Now reading your great news I just had to congradulate you and ASK you what the man's name was. I would be so thankful if you could give me that info.!!!! Thank you for letting us know that we must never give up and that there is hope no matter what!!!

hey, the guy i went to see is called Diarmuid Lavelle, he is located in Galway in Ireland (15A Ruxton court, dominic street, galway to be precise) obviously this may not work for everyone, i just wanted to let people know that it might, and is another option to try!!
the bloke i saw had also treated someone else with the problem, (although it took a couple of sessions for them rather than just the one that it took for me), so was easy to talk to as he already knew about it.
im not entirely sure whether it was the bloke, or the therapy type, but obviously ireland is impractical to get to for most,, i would guess if the therapy is right for you it would work whoever did it, so try loking up NLP practicioners in yellow pages, if they arnt there, try looking under hypnotists (there are often people who practice both), or try the people who offer stopping smoking in an hour, as its often the same therapy, and try to get reccomnendations of friends etc too.
good luck!
