Hi- I recently thought of a convenient and easy way to cover and uncover my mirrors. It is helping me so far. Just use the new plastic wrap "Press and Seal." It sticks to the mirror and you can't see through it. It's easy to remove for a little bit of time when you are getting ready; then you can put some right back up. I'm so much less tempted when I can't see my skin and pores.

WOW! Great idea! I have a hard time with mirrors too. I don't want them completely covered because I do use it for makeup. Only problem is my roommates might ask what's up. If I ever live alone, I think I should only have hand-held mirrors so that one hand always has to be holding it if I want to look. One-handed picking is more difficult than using both hands to squeeze!
good advice. -sunshine-

Hey Sunshine- I live by myself, but I know what you mean about feeling self-conscious. I figure it's better than putting up a written sign to "stop" and a list of alternate activities, which is what a therapist suggested. The wrap is a little harder to figure out and harder for you to ignore. Since you have roommates, you might want to try another idea I read about: cover your mirror with cute decorations, like those gel shapes that stick on. They'll think you're a little kooky, but won't know it's about picking. I wonder, though, if you can look around those and still pick...haven't tried it. I have tried the hand-held mirror, and that is definitely helpful.

Thank you so much for this tip. I didn't even think about covering up my mirrors prior to coming here. I bought some of the colorful plastic wrap to make it a little festive (I live alone, so no one will ask me about it).
Let's see if I can go for a day without attacking my face, now.
