I just had an idea that may or may not work...but I swear it's worth a try!
Someone on the support board mentioned that she had to tie one hand behind her back when she went to use the bathroom or to wash her face or something. I couldn't quit thinking about that the past few days, and just now I started thinking about how I might make a one- or even two-handed set of "handcuffs." I figured I just might use a couple of ordinary belts--wear one around my waist and tie another one to the first. With the second belt I could keep a hand behind my back, yet still have one hand free for whatever I need to do in the bathroom. But I wouldn't be able to pick at my face, arms, or legs very well with one hand.
I've also found over the past couple of days that my little "ATTENTION: THIS [PICKING] IS AN ATTEMPT AT BRAINWASHING. FAILURE TO STOP WILL RESULT IN HEARTRACHE, SHAME, AND FEELINGS OF INADEQUACY" mantra in my head helps some, and I find that if I want to pick or play with my hair, if I quickly put my hands down and drum my fingers instead, it helps take care of the need to keep my hands in a mindless steady motion.
What do you think? Any tips on an alternative, instantaneous thing to do with your hands when you want to pick? Later, cool hand luke

you could just use a scrunchie (though I'm told those are out of fashion, but damn they are comfortable!)
