Skin picking is not my biggest problem, I have Post Tramatic stress syndrome from caring for a violent child that is severely retarded. He has since been placed at a live-in school for handicapped. His twin has aspergers syndrome (a type of autism) and I have a 12 year old daughter that has been hospitalized with depression. I also suffer from depression, severe panic attacks (almost under control) and had ocd in the past, I used to have to cross myself hundreds of times after prayers and many other behaviors. I recently had my breasts reduced but picked at them so much they left huge scars because the stitches came apart. I still have two spots I still pick at on my breasts. My legs and bottom are covered with scabs. I find that if I keep them covered with bandaids it helps, but if I take the bandaids off at any time, it starts again. I admitted to a therapist I recently saw about this problem. I feel relieved but my hubby can never see me nude. I'm on wellbutrin, but it doesn't help. Thanks, I just needed to get this off my chest!

Hi Faith, I am so glad you found this website. You are home. We are all like you. I have picked for 35 years, on my face, breast, tummy, shoulders, neck, back, legs, arms and anywhere else you can think of. It is definitly OCD related and a very difficult problem.
Please keep coming here, check in every day to remind yourself that you are not alone, okay? To learn that this is not your fault is very important, and that this does not make you a bad person.
The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem. You have done that. Next you have reached out for help. We are here to take your hand.
Check out the support board as well as this tips for quitting board. That board is actually more active I think. There are lots and lots of people here who care.
I have found a solution to my problem. I started a 12 step recovery program for quitting skin picking, and it is working for me and several others. It is all explained in the "successful day and feeling good yay" thread on the support board. Check it out if you like. I hope you do.
the point is, you don't have to do this to yourself anymore. There are solutions.
Now you are here you are on your way to recovery, congratulations, and welcome.
Do you have a tube of Neosporin? I swear by it. I put it on all the time. Not only does it help reduce the urge because the skin feels smooth and greasy, it speeds up the healing process.
Anyway, I am sending a box of bandaids, and a warm cup of hot cocoa to calm your tension and warm your soul.
keep coming back!
luv,
Spring Angel
