I hear lots of people talking about all these medications they're taking, but none of them seems to help with the problem. Whether these people are taking the pills for depression or the picking behavior itself, it doesn't seem to be working. In some cases, they say the medication makes the impulse to pick worse.
This is just my opinion, so I hope I don't offend anyone... But maybe we should all stop relying on some magic pill to cure us. Maybe what we really need is more self-control. I used to meditate and I even tried self-hypnosis for a while, and it worked wonders for me... But then I slacked off for a while with my routine, and then my mom tried to commit suicide 4 times in two months and I did a total backslide. I think that if I went back to meditating and self-hypnosis, I could really improve. In fact, that's what I'm going to do as soon as I finish taking my finals (when I have a little extra time). For this month I've just got to settle for taking it one day at a time, and trying to resist the urge on a conscious level. Maybe you guys should try to break the compulsion down on a subconscious level, instead of trying to alter your brain-chemicals with drugs -- which I think could be more damaging to your psyche in the long run.
For right now, I'm just going to take long salty baths... wear gloves at night and use triple antibiotic cream on my sores during the day to keep them from getting the scabs that I love to remove. :/ And maybe to help them heal. I think keeping your nails clipped short helps a bit, too. When you find yourself touching your face, seeking out imperfections, it's more difficult to scratch when you've hardly got anything to scratch with!
Does anyone know what's good for old scars? I'm using this shea butter stuff for a scar on my knee (rollerblading accident), but I haven't had any results yet. Does cocoa butter help with scars? Fish oil tablets? Help me out, if you know.
