Hey everyone, been awhile since i posted on here but been browsing thru some recent posts and thought i'd pass on a couple things that may be helpful to someone. Now i've been trying like hell to quit picking and fighting this thing like mad but i haven't gotten any better and i realize that for me and for most of you, we just can't overcome this thing totally on our own. I've let the problem slide for way, way too long saying "i can beat this thing, i don't need anyone's help" but i've been lying to myself.. i do need help.
So maybe you've been putting off seeking help for months and months or like me, for years and years... DON'T PUT IT OFF! Tackle the issue NOW! You may feel totally ashamed, get help anyway. You may worry about what other may think... screw them, your life is way too precious to waste another day. You may think no one will understand, this problem is way too wacky. Not true, there has been tons of new study on CSP, lots of therapists and pyschs are becoming aware of this major issue. In fact when i started picking, it wasn't even named yet, there was no medical term such as Compulsive Skin Picking (CSP) .. it was just considered an off-shoot of OCD or BDD.
So my point is don't get caught up in the vicious cycle of needing help but not getting help b/c of one thing or another... just suck it up and do it. Ignoring the problem or putting it off for another day is the absolutely worst thing you can do, i can vouch for that. There are many avenues for which to get help but the one thing you're going to have to do is confess, tell someone what you do and ask them for help, whether it be a friend, family member, therapist, pysch, general doctor... just get it off your chest and start making a solid gameplan of how you are going to overcome picking.
We live in a compassionate country, for the most part we want to help one another and are understanding about each others problems. I was amazed at the response i got when i finally sought help, i felt better about being honest with myself and positive that i started the process of tackling my problem. Hope this helps someone in need. Now let's kick some CSP ass!!
