I think it helps to focus on positive things. For example, instead of focusing on not picking those zits on our faces or bodies - maybe we should focus on ways to treat your skin really well.
Maybe when you feel "the urge" as I like to call it - be prepared to do something else - something relaxing. Like using a foot spa, taking a bath - doing something positive for yourself - instead of focusing on not doing a negative. I think focusing on the negative can be a downward spiral.
Also, maybe have reasonable expectations. We all want to be "cured" or "quit cold turkey." But maybe a reduction in skin picking is a good thing. You know?
Another thing - while in the bathroom - is trying to focus on what's next. For example, in the morning - I need to be getting ready for work. If I go into the bathroom focusing on what I need to do - better yet what I want to be doing - eating breakfast, picking out an outfit, getting to work on time - basically thinking about things other than the acne.

I am also a positive thinker. There seems to be so few optimists out there! Even when it gets bad, I may be upset for awhile, but it always goes away and I'm ready to start fresh again.

meindc, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. You got it girl--I think trying to quit cold turkey in the beginning is ridiculous. I think a picker has to work up to that point or else they are setting themselves up for failure. I think a person who has been badly picking for years and years due to anxiety, boredom trying to quit cold turkey all of the sudden.... IS THE SAME AS A MORBIDLY OBESE PERSON GOING ON A LIQUID DIET TO STOP OVEREATING!!! it aint gonna work!! There I said it! I also agree with the positive thinking and trying to concentrate on what we are doing while in the bathroom. Thats my prob cause I go in there and the next thing I know I am zoned and picking. So concentration is key. For me--when I feel the urge to pick immediately taking a long shower gets me thru the night pick free.
