Hey guys..I have a tip that may help those who pick their fingers, like me. In the shower and bath, our fingers get pruny, but prunier than the average person, since we pick our fingers. Well, I put this exfoliating foot cream on my hands, which I do once in a while, before I got in the shower. I have never put the cream on before a shower, and I did not think much of it. However, my fingers were notably smoother in the shower, and it took them longer than usual to get pruny. When the fingers get pruny, it's easier and more inviting to pick. So, by putting an exfoliating foot cream on your hands before showering, you may pick less, or not at all, while in the shower. I didn't pick at all, and I normally do! Just don't put the cream on too much, or else your skin can get irritated. The name of the cream I use is "earth therapeutics tea oil gentle foot peel." I hope this helps!

hrmmm... I normally lotion up after the bath.. seems to seal in some of the moisture so theres no pokiness. Although now I admit I think im becoming a chronic hand washer. when im home and i get to picking i run to the bathroom, wash hands (with Dial hospital strength foaming hand soap) and dive into the lotion. The stinginess the soap and lotion causes is woooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeee but it also helps keep me from picking for a bit because it hurts like heck. Wow Im so glad I found this forum, I don't feel like a freak anymore.

MynX,
I don't have a problem with picking my fingers but have you tried something gentler to wash your hands with? Even with regular use my hands got terribly dry any time I've used Dial regular hand soap so I have trouble imagining it being good for hands you want to keep moist.
I know, you're trying to make it hurt to remind you not to pick, (I've put painful cleansers on my face before) but sometimes being loving and nurishing can be just as effective.

Well Ive tried ALOT of things. I like the dial foaming stuff because it leaves my hands feeling clean. it seems with other soaps my hands always feel.. somehow not rinsed enough. and I like the antibacterial properties of it. When my fingers are really bad I cant stand when they feel dirty. And normal soaps or lotion soaps make my hands feel...slimy and not clean. Then lotion on top of that makes it even more icky. So I like the dial stuff for that reason Putting lotion on hands that already feel slimy is *shudder* *cringe* *ack* ;D Sure it may sting a little but actually most soaps do, just because I always have some raw bits. Thanks for the advice

Wow I can relate so much to what ya'll are talking about. I've found myself washing my hands alot over the past months, especially after I've been picking my cuticles. I wash wash wash and then lather up in lotion. I keep tweezers in my desk drawer and trim my cuticles all up to make them nice and clean and before I know it, I'm picking again. They were healing nicely and then I went out last night and picked like crazy until my thumb started bleeding. I've found that when I drink alcohol, I pick more. I'm just going to break down and get acrylic nails again - that seems to be the only thing that makes me quit.

I am a finger and heel picker. I started first at picking my palms near my thumbs now it is just my fingers and heels. I hate myself because I do it and I keep putting myself in denial that I have a serious problem. I picked today really bad. I picked my heel to the point the new under skin hurt and a couple spots bleed. I put neosporin on it and bandaged it up. I thought I could stop on my own I guess I am wrong, and I am scared. I thought I was alone. I am gald I found this site.
