I've been on Zoloft 200 mg/day for about 4 years and it hasn't stopped the picking. Then last week my doctor said I should stop Zoloft and try Lexapro. For the past week he's had me taking 100 mg/day of Zoloft and 5mg/day of Lexapro. I've had no serious urges to pick until yesterday afternoon while at work. It carried over into the evening after I got home too. Unfortunately, my husband was busy working on his computer which left me able to sneak into the bathroom. Yuck. This next week I'm supposed to take Zoloft 50mg/day and Lexapro 10mg/day. Wish me luck! Also, the doctor gave me this steroid cream stuff to rub on my arms. I've been using it for about a week and have not noticed any difference yet.

Westie how are you doing on the Lexapro? Hope it has kicked in and your urges are less. Take care

I take 10mg of Lexapro a day and have found it very helpful. I still pick but not as much. Lexapro reduces my anxiety. Just know that some side effects are fatigue and prolonged ability to achieve orgasm during sex. Lexapro has helped me sleep better and I am less overwhelmed by stress.

hi, ive only been on lexapro for three days, and the side effects are really weirding me out. Did you experience dizzyness, and mental cloudiness? It also has made me really uninterested in food. If you had these side effects, do they subside. I've read also some of the symptoms from stopping the medication after long use, many people have said they get really sick, nauseaous, and twitchy.
any knowledge would be great

I've been taking Celexa (similar to Lexapro) for depression for several years. I had a lot of crappy side effects at first, including dizziness that lasted about a month (on & off). But it worked on the depression and anxiety, and the side effects went away. However, it didn't do much for my picking.

My doctor also put me on Lexapro. It has reduced what I now realize was depression and has helped with anxiety, but not as well as I'd hoped. Actually, Xanax helps better with anxiety. I have a supply on hand for those moments when I get a wave of anxiety. Problem is, Xanax makes me drowsy.
But Lexapro shouldn't have many side effects - it's supposed to be a "lighter" anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drug. And the side effects in the studies went away.

I'm on 20mg a day of Lexapro. Good news is, my depression has nearly vanished -- I'm my old, happy self. Bad news is, the picking is actually worse. I'm okay with the tradeoff but I wish there was a magic pill to get rid of the picking.
