Hey y'all
Here's the thing. I'm a hairy girl. That's right, I get coarse hairs especially near my hairline on the sides of my cheeks, on my neck, and a few on my chin. It's lovely to have this on my head, nice n' thick hair, but it presents a maintenance issue elsewhere. I'm afraid that since I've been no-pick and have been avoiding touching my face or looking in the mirror very closely, that I'll be running around with a 5 o'clock shadow (it's not that bad, but I stated that for humor's sake). So how does one go about proper hair removal without risking a picking session? I have picked in the name of maintenance, especially hair removal, before - and don't want to risk it now. Anyone else have a similar issue?

Skigirl, I have the exact same issue. Generally I pluck my neck hairs and shave the rest (I have some on the place where I would normally have sideburns if I were a guy...does that make sense? Also I shave a few hairs on my chin. That seems to work for me. I have to be careful with plucking because it can leave behind irritated bumps, and we all know what happens then...
Later! CHL

I don't know what to tell you that won't make you break out, unfortunately. I've used cold wax strips in the past and that always turned into a lot of tiny white heads and a lot of picking.
I tried Veet twice. The first time I was ok, I guess I used it more properly and I was better at resisting picking at irritation but the second time I got itchy bumps that drove me crazy and back into a full picking spree (also to do with a lot of stress).

if you can avoid taking out these hairs (if they are not so noticable) just leave them there, whatever youu DON'T shave your face b/c this is going to become a part of your life forever and it doesn't look very nice for a girl to have a stubble on her face like a man. If you must do this, go to a professional, or try very hard to dicipline yourself not to pick and tweeze them out after the shower or steeming your face, this way the hairs will come out easier. Tweezing makes your hair grow back thinner and will not create a stubble like shaving will. Hope this helps

Hi Skigril, I have a friend who has the same problem, she is saving up for ALAZE (not sure of the spelling) she needs a permanent solution so she will stop preforming as she puts it, Surgery...You could try a facial bleaching kit maybe? I know that if you start shaving that you will have to do it always...you might have already tried that...Good Luck and Take Care... SoS

Hi Skigirl!
Have you considered that the facial hair may be a hormonal issue? Too much testosterone in a woman causes hair, acne, and the odd mood swing. I had a problem with this and was able to solve it by using a strong antiandrogenic birth control pill called "Diane-35" or "Dianette". Ask your doctor if this may be a problem.

Oh my gawd...I thought I was the only one... This is my problem also...excessive plucking has lead to bumps, picking, etc. I'm having less difficulty by using Neostrata with glycolic acid on my neck. It acts as an exfoliator and I don't get the bumps anymore...but it would be nice to just get rid of the $@#!!!! hair. Anyone tried Kalo? Apparently it is a growth inhibitor..

i have the same problem but it deals with arm hair...as a kid i was always so embarassed of my hairy arms since im a girl, and two years ago i started to shave them. love that they are smooth, but NOW...it gives me more things to pick @ at my arms because of ingrown hairs. i see them and i MUST tweeze them out. i tried nair but it doesnt seem to last much longer, and i can only use it when i have no cuts...which isnt very often.
anyone know of something that will help cease the ingrown hairs???
ps...i have been trying to register on this page for about a week now...it says it sends the password to my email but ive tried about 5 times and it doesnt...anyone know what i am doing wrong?

Have you tried just trimming the hair on your arms? I've done that before and of course they're not smooth after, but the hair is less noticeable because it's shorter and there shouldn't be ingrown hairs. (I have really long arm hair, yo. I feel your pain).

have you considered electrolysis for chin hairs?
also, for ingrowing hairs, there are products available that are supposed to prevent this. ive heard it called 'bumps solution' but i think it has various brand names... (its designed for black men and in the uk is usually found in the black skin care/ afro hair care section of the pharmacy).
take care, rae xxx

grr i hate hair anywhere apart from my head..that's where it should be!!..i used to get picked on about my arm and leg hair ppl saying i should have been born a man..wel i was 12 then ;D so not in my prime but l8r on i shaved my arms a few times which made it grow back thicker which im not proud of and sorely regret so please i mean i know ppl shave legs but your arms are more sensetive and not really a place to shave. waxing your arms..I've tried this too but again i didn't like the ingrown hairs it gave me caus they look weird. But then again waxing makes your hair grow back thinner doesn't it?? I know plucking does this n its sortof similar caus they're both taking the whole hair shaft out. But it'd take you ages to pluck your entire arm (x2) so my advice is if the suns shining get out n bleach your hairs that way or buy a home bleaching kit if your armhair bothers you. I've decided just to not worry about mine now caus I have friends who have it just as bad but my dark hair doens't help really..but I try to make it bleach in the sun as much as poss.
Love y'all Jess -x-x-x-x

I have the whole face hair thing going on aswell. It doesn't help with tying to clear your face up caus hairs on it make it look sortof more pickable..? well i have the sideburn thing and a while ago i trimmed them n my hairdresser told me off!..she was right, it grew back longer and i cant be assed to keep trimming so i just let it grow long enough to tuck behind my ears. Their not really sideburns thats such a manly expression their womanly tufts and they can look really pretty if you don't turn them into stubble. it can take bravery but try it. Best thing on your face for coarser hairs like mine is to have electrolysis. I havn't tried it and have heard that after a while a few hairs will grow back but they're hardly noticeable and never grow back as much as before. You can get home electrolyisis kits aswell but I'd try it in the salon pofessionally first! you might be like yauch! I'm not so sure plucking makes hair thinner I've been plucking above my lips for ages and it just seems to get worse i think I'll switch to delipotay cream. ooooh delipotary cream brilliant stuff i have to say..and you get ones that inhibit hair regrowth as well!! ill keep you posted on that..but just don't use them on 'sore or broken skin' caus it will absalutely cane and give you a nice red rash as i very unfortunately discovered half hour before my hot date oopzie red moustache..NOT ATTRACTIVE...just a warning to every1 sounz like some of you know already...but just make sure the removal cream you are using is designed to be used on your face..good luck in killing the hair! LOVE y'all, LOVE me -x-x-x-x
