the last few weeks, i have gotten into playing computer solitaire, and have noticed my picking has significantly decreased. i know i am way into the computer games, but it totally absorbs my attention and i get a similar satisfaction from playing that i get from picking (getting all of the cards to line up and then they disappear). i can spend hours in front of the computer, and by the time i am done i am totally mentally and physically exhausted and dont feel like picking. and while i am playing, my mind is completely occupied so i dont even think of picking. i am also an anxious type person who goes over every little thing in my head and will make my self upset over nothing, and when i play on the computer i dont do that. i realize that it isnt healthy to be so addicted to a computer game, but for right now, i would rather be hooked on solitaire than picking. at least the results are not as bad as picking. i dont know if i am just weird, but this has helped me some and maybe it will help someone else.

Petunia- I can totally relate to the computer game addiction! About a week ago I found this website called neopets- it has these puzzle games and I can't pull myself away- hours go by and I can't quit! At first I felt like I was bad for substituting this for picking, but now I'm glad- it keeps my fingers way too busy to pick and I need this distraction during these first hard days of stopping! If you get sick of solitaire check out the neopets puzzle games- lots of things where you line stuff up and it disappears- that's my draw to the game too- strange how we are all so similar in so many quirky ways

aaaargh! im so addicted to solitaire! i also play hearts... AND i wore out the mouse on my laptop playing minesweeper ! i dont feel great about the amount of time i spend/waste playing games but at least it doesnt lead to further timewasting like a picking session does- by which i mean the whole concealing-blemishes-and-then-being-late thing rae xxx

Exactly! Plus, it's not as exasperating as that whole concealer-try to hide-didn't work- start over- keep trying to look unpicked- running late- cycle! People get soooo sick of me ALWAYS being late- and by the time I get there the last thing I need is that! I already feel terrible about myself by then- and guilty enough. And it's totally understandable that people would get tired of always waiting like that. Sometimes I just feel like breaking into tears and confessing why I am so late, but of course I never do... Oops- once again I am rambling... Have you guys ever played Tetris on Nintendo Gameboy? I was beyond addicted to that for almost a year- I confessed to my Mom one day- and get this- she had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM! She would lock herself in her office and have her secretary hold all calls as if she was doing important stuff and couldn't be interrupted- and she was just playing Tetris! It still blows my mind that my MOM has a gameboy You guys should check out the neopets.com games- they have minesweeper, pyramid solitaire and all kinds of fun games just like those! I'm bad- enable, enable- sorry!

hehe, reformedpicker, youre so right! your description of the cycle is much more accurate than mine! man, ive been horribly late untold times cos of that damned cycle... (not recently tho', im pleased to say). tetris makes me go a bit crazy! i played a lot a couple of years back and id be seeing it on the insides of my eyelids when i was trying to go to sleep at night! i started playing tomb raider instead, but all those lions and wolves and whatnot made me tense. i dont play playstation anymore!! right, im gonna go now cos im sounding like a total loon take care, guys. love rae xxx

raerae I am sitting here laughing out loud at this conversation!!! We are probably all intelligent grown women and we're sitting here talking about our favorite video games to play- I love it!!! Don't worry about seeing tetris everywhere after playing too much- it's actually common- even among normal people don't let it keep you away! It's so sad to think of the time wasted just trying to get out the door going through that cycle! No more of that for me either- it's only been two days but what a difference it makes- it's the ones that are so fresh they still ooze that are the hardest to hide! That sounds so gross- but that clear liquid takes so long to stop- that's what makes me have to start the whole process all over YUUUUUUUUCK!!! Don't ever want to deal with that again. I'd much prefer to be late because I can't be torn away from my games Did you ever play Legend of Zelda on the old Nintendo? I think it's NES- not sure. My brothers and I loved that game- they have a new version of it for Nintendo GameCube (I think it's so cute- looks like a purse!) and it's pretty fun- I spent about a month atrtached to that damn controller unable to stop until I won! This still has me cracking up- I'm 27- actually pretty mature for my age, notmally professional and reasonable- not with my games! ;D I've never played play station- by the time my brothers got those they wouldn't play with me anymore!

i will have to check out some of those other games you guys mentioned! i can totally relate to the vicious cycle of trying to hide our wounds and ending up being late, and ending up picking even more in an 'attempt' to clean up the mess and make ourselves look presentable (which of course only makes it worse!). as for the problem of the oozing sores (the clear liquid, and sometimes blood), what works really well to stop the oozing w/in a minute or two, is a styptic pencil. it is in drugstores in the men's grooming section near razors and shaving cream. it stings a little bit and leaves a white residue, but that easily wipes off. it has been a lifesaver for me.

I never thought of that Petunia- what a great thing! If I had known that I could have saved my friends and family lots of frustration as minutes ticked along- still no sign of me Hopefully I will never need to buy a styptic pencil- although it would be handy for cuts and scrapes that normal people have. I hope I remain reformed- time will tell You really should check out thed games- if you like that kind of stuff! If you do let me know which ones you like. Thanks again for the fab-o tip I love these smiley faces- so fun!

I just found this web sight and had a really bad picking session last night that I'm paying for big time. I hadn't picked for a long time and now, well I start the healing process again. I am amazed at the similarities though in other activities. I love solitaire and play it way too much. That and freecell and even the legend of Zelda--I loved that game!!TEXT

hi raerae- a styptic pencil is in grocery stores/ drug stores by the mens shaving cream, razors, etc... i think it feels sort of like a nail file and you put it where you need it to stop bleeding- it's for men who cut themselves shaving and don't like the look of little pieces of toilet paper stuck on their face to stop the bleeding. I don't know what exactly it is made of.

Hi guys, I just love this tread...Jousting in the arcade was my favorite when I was a teenager...I loved Pac-man & Ms. Pac-man...the games today are amazing...they are so intense and sometimes hard to figure out...I've used a styptic pencil before,I have not had one for awhile...it does work great...but I don't know if I should buy one...it might make me pick more... :-/Oh, and I know all to well about the cycle...trying to cover-up and then pick more before I have to walk out the door to have to go somewhere...then I have covered-up, washed off, covered-up and washed off several times... o.x, sos

Loooooooooove PacMan! When I was a kid my parents got my brothers and me one of the big arcade size Ms PacMan games for Christmas- we were ecstatic! Of course we fought non stop over whose turn it was- making my parents question their decision, I'm sure. After a week my mom had it moved to the garage so she didn't have to hear it!
