acne is related to picking, isn't it? i wouldn't even be picking if it wasn't for my acne! has anyone else tried retin-a micro? if so, PLEASE tell me if you got good or bad results from it. any information would be very very helpful. thanks so much!

i've been using retin a micro 0.1 for about a month to fade the dark patchy scars from picking. i've only got very very mild acne...i would say that i'm a "recovering" picker (haven't had a true pickfest for weeks) so the retin a is just part of my skin regime to lighten the damage. i decided to use it after much online research.
it is working beautifully! my understanding is that it helps to renew the deeper layers of skin that glycolic acid can't (which i'm also using on alternate days). basically, it quickens up the skin "shedding" process. unfortunately, this means some stinging, redness, and flaking. beware of the flaky sheets of skin...soooo tempting to a picker. i caught myself a couple times peeling them off but have since stopped.
my complexion has been smoother and more uniform in tone than it has been in years. i have realistic expections though, my skin will never be perfect, but it feels good to go without makeup and not be self-conscious.
the most important thing is you must be patient! i'm gonna stick with it for a few more months. it's fading my dark scars but i've read that retin a, like chemical peels, will NOT smooth out pitted scars. again, i don't have serious acne so i don't know if retin a is effective for that.
hope that helps, bc

thank you so much! i'm thrilled to hear that it's working for you. i've only been using it for a little over a week so far. all of the commercials and adverts i've seen about it all say "clearer skin in two weeks is possible with retin-a micro!", plus once before my dermatologist perscribed it to me to clear my acne. i used it until the tube ran out, and i believe that my skin really started improving. but for some reason i never got more of it. so i spend a lot of time trying cheaper stuff that didn't work, until i finally went back to the derm again. i thought he would perscribe the retin-a micro again, but he perscribed differin. (it did nothing for my skin) so, i ordered the retin-a myself online without a perscription. my acne isn't severe but it's a little worse than moderate.
i have also experienced dry flaky skin, but i've been keeping my hands off my face lately. thanks for listening, and good luck!

for me, i don't mind the dry flaking skin because it's a sign that the retin a is helping to slough off the dark scars that i have.
and scarredaisy, even though i don't have bad acne, those commercials for acne creams also make me feel sad. they remind me that i am the one inflicting the damage on my own face and that a clear complexion seems like something that OTHER people can achieve but such an impossible goal for me.
however, i have been nicer to my skin lately and it is clearing up...now i'm dealing with the scars.

i think the retin-a is actually starting to clear my skin. i also just started putting on pure vitamin E oil on my face. it's very sticky though!

Hello there... I have a couple of Q and A's for you. I would be.."Oh so Grateful" if you could give me some advice in the matter.
So, I started getting acne at age 18...I am now 21. That's when my picking fest began. It was obviously hormonal. I eventually stopped birth control(Yasmin), after finishing a course of accutane. I have had great success using proactiv after the accutane. Less frequent breakouts that are mild. My picking has subsided for the most part since I started the Seroquel. My Dr. put me on Retin-A Micro .04% to try and get rid of the left over scarring. I have read that I am not supposed to use the combo of R.A.M and Benzoyl Peroxide(Proactiv). The R.A.M. website suggests the use of Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Face Wash. I am really confused and so is my skin.
I was hoping that you could recommend some products you use with the R.A.M. as well as the regimen you were placed on. Any feedback on what I am currently doing would help immensely. This is what I am doing right now...
AM Wash w/ Proactive cleanser Cetaphil moisturizing lotion Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 30 Makeup (Physicians Formula Mineral powder noncomedo.)
PM Wash w/ Neutro. Fresh. Foam. Cleanser (w/a clean, soft wash cloth, To remove makeup) Wash w/ Proactive cleanser Finish with the other proactiv steps..(toner,bp lotion) Cetaphil moist. lotion.
On the nights that I use R.A.M (.04% 2-3x per week), I use the Neut. cleanser only.
Sorry for the long life story...I am just way confused. I have gotten very mixed messages from other onliner's as to whether R.A.M can be used w/ BP, even though they are not applied at the same time. Thanks a million.
Best Wishes

mj,
Ok, this is NOT professional advice in any way shape or form since I am not a professional and I'm not qualified to give advice in anything medical or pharmaceutical. And actually, I'm guessing the RAM is prescription (mine was) so you should ask your dermatologist.
A few years ago I was seeing a dermatologist and she had me on Retin A Micro and Benzamycin (Not sure I spelled that right). The Benzamycin was Benzoyl Peroxide based and was to be used in the morning while the Retin A was to be used at night (or vice versa) because if used together they cancel each other out.
That was my experience, but ask your dermatologist. It's good that you're using moisturiser with sunscreen too. The Retin A makes you more sensitive to sun exposure and can dry your skin out.
