Hi,
I'm new to the group and have found this site very useful. I had no idea there were as many skin pickers out there.
Today I'm seeing a psychiatrist. Has anybody else had to do this before?
I've picked for 20 years now (started when I was 8 and had excema). I've seen a psychologist before and one year of counselling. My GP thinks she might refer me for cognitve behavioural therapy. Has anybody done this before?

no actually this thursday will be my first visit with a cognitive behavioral psychologist, but i have heard this type of therapy can be very successful, so let me know how your visit goes and i'll tell you how mine goes!

I've only ever seen a counselor, who I find to be very helpful. Good luck--let us know how it goes!

I see a therapist and a psychiatrist (for some reason I have to see both at this place) the therapist is the one I talk to and the psychiatrist is the one who prescibes the meds... which so far I have quit taking everyone they have tried me on...and the list is long...but I am still takng xanax (low dose) prescribed by my GP...its been the best yet...

i'm really curious about the cognitive behavior therapy. how did it go for those of you who've tried it? i've heard that compared to people who just use meds, those who do BOTH meds & c-b therapy have a much much lower rate of relapse into picking behavior.
even if you've only done a few sessions of the c-b therapy, how is it??
