I thinks it helps my anxiety ALOT...however I only have a .25 mg dose & I have to half or 1/4 it if I plan on doing alot of "functioning" during the day.

Xanax puts me to sleep as well, I've found Valium to be much better, I stay awake and calm down enough where the urge to pick is minimized, but not completely gone.

Ask your doctor if it might be an option for you guys.

My doctor prescribed me Xanax for the really stressful days, I don't know if it has helped with the picking because I don't take it daily. She prescribed me Effexor to take daily, it definitely helps with the stress and depression but I don't know about the picking. It's almost a habit now that I need to try and break.

I started out on Paxil for my anxiety but after being on it for a month, it didn't help with squat. My nurse then put me on a trial of Lexapro and I noticed a HUGE difference in a general sense of well-being within 3 weeks. I don't know if meds like these are supposed to work right away or they have to be in your system for a while. I don't think I could have come as far as I have in stopping my face picking without this medication.

Only down side to that drug is it's really expensive--ridiculously so, like $3 a day!--and I don't have health insurance. My nurse has been able to provide me with enough samples and she has a deal with the drug rep who visits the office to keep me supplied.

I tried Xanax years ago for something and it knocked me on my ass for the entire day--had to call out sick! Same thing with Flexeril (a back spasm stopping pill). Some folks do fine, others get put into a coma

If you want to try meds and cost is a factor, see if your health care provider can put you on a trial with samples first, otherwise you might just be throwing away your money. There are an insane number of drugs out there and they're all different and most of the times it's hit or miss with what works.

They've definately helped me.

I have been on Zoloft which has helped with anxiety and depression. If I remember to take the Valium before I get in the shower, the urge to analyze my pores after the shower is reduced and I can simply pass up that unnecessary ritual and continue on with cleansing, make-up, etc.

For me, the key is to relax, and like FarmGirl said, it is hit or miss with meds for each person, the work differently.

Ugh, the love hate of xanax. I have a prescription for xanax. i wouldlike to call it the wonder drug. nothing makes me feel better. It just makes me feel like everything is fine. I believe it stunts the picking as well. the problem is that it is a highly addictive drug. I am not addicted to it, but am afraid of that. so i just take it when i'm really stressed out. i've had it for years. if i took it everyday, i would just feel great. I have Celexa, which also helps. But, i just take the smallest dose of it; because it affects my sex drive if I take more.
