Well, one thing that the Habit Workbook says is that we should make an opposite habit to combat our bad habit. So, I made one and it's to clasp my hands together and count to 100 every time I get the urge to pick. I do this so that my hands are occupied and i can't pick. Lemme tell you- it really works! At the end of counting to 100 I don't want to pick anymore! Everyone should try this!

I find exercise helps me get my mind off picking. I'll walk on the tredmill, jump rope, lift small weights to tone my arms. and do the ab slide. I find it a great stress reliever and it makes me feel good to know I'm getting in shape and concentrating on something else besides my face. It helps a little bit, it helps me stay focused on something else instead of my my face. Like anything like walking, jump roping, anything to keep your mind off it. It makes me feel like I did something, which is actuallly healthy and good for my body, unlike picking. Try it some time, I hope it helps!

What do you do when your sore areas get worse b/c of the sweat and dirt blocking the pores. I love to workout, I like the release and the stress outlet it provides me, but I can't stop picking enough to workout. Before the sore heals I have picked again and then I don't workout b/c it get worse from the sweat and dirt. The times that I have worked out is when my face is clear without sores. And now a days that usually doesn't ever happen. It seems the older I have gotten the more I have picked and the less I have worked out. Can someone help.
So sometimes I have

drprincess,
Sweating alone isn't bad for your complexion (actually, it helps release toxins). It's just not good to leave it on your skin, so showering immediately after is a good idea.
Don't let your skin stop you. Even if it is a little irritated, it will probably get used to the change in a matter of weeks.

WOW! This topic is really old, I was surprised to see my response from 2002 about me exercising. It kinda makes me depressed cause I'm so outta shape now and don't exercise anymore. I remember that year I exercised, I lost 30 pounds, and went down 3 pants size! I need to get back on the tredmill, to relieve stress, plus it's good for you, and losing weight is another perk! Nothing beats exercising! ;D

I've started the tredmill and have been sticking with it for almost 2 weeks, I've been drinking lots of water and eating healthier, I feel like I'm doing something positive and feel better after I'm on the tredmill, hopefully I will start seeing some results in my weight, definitly need to lose weight! But maybe this will help reduce my picking urges too, too early to tell yet.

Hey I think exercising does reduce picking. I have gone jogging the last two days and the fresh air is great for the skin. Ive also been eating pineapple and melon for 3 days to detox and then will follow a diet recomended to look young... even though im only 19 its ment to be good for the skin and for loosing weight, so it cant hurt. Feeling physically healthy and fit is important. Also emdorphines are released. Perhaps replacing the feeling we get when we pick. Reflection
