Hi Tonya. Preventing them is why we're all here Treating them...well I'm sure you're going to get a plethora of advice, and here's mine. Save all your money on over-the-counter products and ask for a prescription for Renova. It's a Retin-A cream that you apply very sparingly before bed. I mean a dinky little amount goes a long way (and at almost $100 for a 20 gram tube it had better!). I got a sample tube of it a few years back from a drug rep when I was a medical secretary in family practice. The stuff made my skin slough right off within a matter of weeks. Sounds gross right? Well, if you've got scars, that's honestly the best way to get new skin to grow. I asked my doctor just a few months ago if she would give me a prescription and she did. Course I almost choked when I went to fill the prescription (it's a cosmetic drug, and a lot of prescription plans won't cover such things). But, I saved up and got it filled. Wonderful stuff, but do be prepared for redness, irritation, and of course sloughing skin. Read all of the info carefully. I use it every other night because I can't handle too much irritation. It has been wonderful though to see the scars and dark spots gradually ease up. You really have to resist any picking though, because the new skin is very fragile and tears easily.
