Does anyone else's parents have a habit of picking? Obviously, there's is not as bad as mine. But my Dad picks his mustache, toe nails, and finger nails allll the time, especially when watching tv.
My Mom scratches at the top of her head then looks at her hand, as if she is picking something. She also plays with the palm of her hand. She does these things when driving and relaxing. I haven't really asked her about it. She is a tad bit obsessive compulsive. She is always straightening things! We could be running late but she'll stop to fix the pillows, push in chairs, etc.
My brothers don't seem to have any issues. One of my brothers would pick his nose til it bled when he was little but I'm pretty sure he's stopped.
Maybe we have a genetic predispostion to picking? Or is it just my parents?

Yes, I think there is a likely case that people with CSP have a genetic predisposition to pick. Many people Ive come across have parents who picked in varying degrees, or at leasted had OCD qualitys. My mum picks her scalp and some spots - not to the degree where its a huge problem like myself, but more than most people. She tells me she would probably pick more, but she doesnt have the same skin problems as I do, so there is less to pick at. I definatly think that it is more of a chemical imbalance in our brains rather than just a nasty habit.

Both my parents picket to some degree. But it was my Father who was a scalp picker in later life. When I am able to reduce the frequency it’s easier to stop it all together. So I think it can be a combination of many things. Dee

How odd, my folks are pickers also! My Dad has started to pick his scalp and a warty thing on his chin funny coz it drives me mad when he does it. My mum picks her dry lips all the time and that also does me head in! I am the worst I pick everywhere apart from lips and scalp! My folks are anxious people it is def connected to that as I get a lot of stomach probs and have been told its due to me not breating properly and living on an adrelinin all the time! How can we stop this madness!...
