Hi flower
Did I understand it right -the assessment is going to be made in a few days by a psychologist/psychiatrist to whom you were referred to by your doctor? What did you tell your doctor that made him refer you? What is the assessment for - to see if you can get therapy?
I have had multiple assessments in my life. Don't be afraid of anything. If you don't like a question, you don't have to answer it. Depending on what the assessment is for, you can consider if you want to go at all. If you are afraid of revealing something about yourself, remember, they have to keep everything confidential. And think about how many patients an average psychologist sees - there is in principle nothing he/she has not heard before, so you don't have to be ashamed of anything you tell him/her.
I thought you mentioned you got diagnosed with OCD - then you must have been through an assessment before, or?

Flower - I don't think your doctor can actually diagnose you if she is not a psychologist. She can assume that it is OCD, but I think you have to have a psychologist/psychiatrist to give you a 'real' diagnosis. Since you could talk to your doctor about this, it should not be worse to talk to someone else about it. The questions might be a bit different than what she asked you. Have you never talked to a psychologist before? You will probably be asked about your life, your family, why you think you have OCD, how it affects your life, and other things like how you like school and stuff like that. Don't be afraid of it. It is not going to hurt you. In the end, if they diagnose you correctly and refer you to treatment, it might help you a lot. So see it as something positive. hoppe

no i never sopken to a psychologist before but ive spoke to nurses at my college and at connezions. the lady at connexions asked me about family, school, why i feel i have OCD, and stuff but i burst into tears during that, and it was really embrassing for me. i hate crying in front of people i dont know. so hopefully its not going to be that a bad. but i find that sometimes its really hard to explain how its affecting and talking about family. beacuse i cant explain it very well and so they might not understand how im feeling

Hi Flower
I understand that it can become difficult to explain things in the right way when you are emotionally upset. Maybe you can write some of the things down in advance. For instance, why you think you have OCD. That question is for sure going to come up. If you write it down now, then it might help you during the assessment to remember what you wanted to say and it also might make things more clear to yourself. You might even bring the piece of paper with you.

There's nothing to be afraid of, flower. They will talk to you and maybe give you a questionaire that's meant to help them figure out if it is OCD. It will better help them give you an official diagnosis. Now, as far as talk therapy and crying go, you should see someone regularly and it should be a health professional that you can feel comfortable sharing with. They should listen and be attentive to your needs. If that's not the case, don't give up, just seek help elsewhere. And they are certainly used to people crying...there will be tissues for you. (now on the ligther side....if you do get the questionaire and it's true/false and they ask if you've flown across the atlantic 30 times in a day...don't put true just to be a smartass. They don't really find it all that funny )

Well, I did two as a kid. I don't totally remember. They were peppered with all sorts of different questions to pick up on different things (one asked about picking at things or something and I remember saying I picked at scabs...this was before I had a real picking habit and in retrospect I'm kind of annoyed they never did anything about it. But I was seeing shrinks to deal with being suicidal and behavioral problems from being abused by my father).
The second one I did was all true false and had questions on everything from sex to that flying question (I guess it's a dumb control questions to see if people are compulsive liars?) I was too young to have any of the sex questions apply to me anyway so I was told to put false on anything I didn't understand. That was part of a court-ordered evaluation from a custody battle so I did not continue seeing that psychologist.
