I remember doing this as a child. I dont anymore, but I guess I sometimes eat the skin around my nails when I bite.

I do it, have always done it, I think it started out as a way to hide what I did. Now it is just part of the "habit"

Me too... But I must tell you guys something I know. Everyone has sometime in their childhood or even adults do it -eaten snot. There is a biological explanation to that and that is bacterium. When we get that little sample of bacteria in our mouths our body recognizes it later and we don´t get sick. Something like that. Maybe eating scabs has the same explanation. But it´s not that fresh anyway...

I do too. I just found this wesbite and plan to talk to my therapist about it. I have the same scabs on my head that re-pick over and over. I also chew my hangnails. I have currently have 5 bandaids on my fingers. I have to tell people that I sliced my fingers with a knife while making dinner.

Hope you dont mind me asking But do you get a good feeling from eating your scabs? Such as it reduces your anxity levels? Or is it just part of your compulsion?

no i don't think so. it's just part of the habit. but if i pick a scab off and don't eat it i don't feel satisfied. its not the ingestion that i like, it's just the biting i think.

Well.......
If I take 400mg of N-Acetylcystein effervescent in a glass of water, I don't feel like picking and digging for hours.
Even if the way I was feeling before I took it is completely overpowering and compelling.
Apparently it's an amino acid that we can't make ourselves if we have the disorder.

What is that medication you mentioned? Does it really help?
