Hi sarheah and welcome to the boards. Nope, you're definitely not alone. There are so many people who do this or variations of it and we wouldn't even know! It's nothing to be ashamed of.
I'm not sure what you're referring to about the dry patch. When my skin heals it does start to get dry and flaky around the area. It's good to keep a wound (which I'm sure you want to heal) moist though. You can try aloe, desitin (or desitin creamy) or even anti-bacterial ointment like neosporin. I don't think I'd put neosprin all over the face though because it's based in petroleum jelly and I'm not sure if that'll clog pores. Desitin or aloe would be a better choice (aloe gel also has the benefit of being clear, cheap, making the skin feel clean and non-oily, and also is invisible so it's ok during the day while Desitin helps heal everything faster). Always moisturise with an oil-free moisturizer made for the face and use a gentle cleanser made for the face (cetaphil is good. Not soap because it dries) only twice a day maximum or just water.
Hope that helps.
