Hi there! Yes, I used to run this board, but then I got exceptionally lazy. And, well, stopped. I apologize! I'm still having trouble with picking...I just think I'm in denial or something. Anyway, I saw that someone mentioned something about moderating this board- would anyone like that job? I think I can fix it so that if you want to take care of it you can! Let me know:) Kathy

Hi Kathy Great to hear from you. I have been wondering what happened to you - kind of hoped that you had stopped picking and that this would be the reason you stopped writing here.... . So I am sorry to hear that you still have trouble with picking. Hope it is not too bad! I really want to thank you for creating the board!! You have helped a lot of people very, very much! Thank you. hoppe

Hi, Yes, it was me! I'd especially like to start a new forum for OSPA, our 12 step recovery program for picking. So if I could ask you for help with that it sure would be great. Go to www.selfinjuriousskinpicking.com/bb/to see what Jane did over there. There is a Forum for OSPA and then 13 threads, a Welcome and one for each thread. I took a poll and there were no objections, but it's your board. We just thought you were never coming back. So let me know. Also, yes I will be the new moderator if you like. I don't exactly know what to do though. Glad to see you posting! luv, Spring p.s. Maybe you can join us in OSPA in recovery!

First off, I want to comment on how much this site has helped me already and I look forward to seeing just how far I can go. I'm sorry Kathy that you're still having trouble. All my love and strength to you. However my post has more to do with the OSPA issue. I visited the site and although it's a great idea I noticed how obviously faith based it is. As an atheist, I personally believe that I have enough strength to stop my habits, I just need to find it. If a OSPA forum were to start, I beg you to keep it seperate in order to respect those that do not think giving all control to a god is the answer. I'm not trying to offend anyone who is theistic but I know that after reading the 12 steps, they are definitly not for me. Perhaps a noticable link to the OSPA website would be enough. Thanks for listening. Keep on trucking everybody!~

Eyahnah,
Although the steps use the word God, it is possible to work the steps even if you are an atheist, by using the OSPA group as your higher power. You can also use the acronym for God "Good Orderly Direction", or the idea of Love, Hope, etc, in lieu of God. We all have faith in something, electricity, etc, the only caviat the steps ask is that you direct your faith to a power greater than yourself, which could be any of the above, the Universe, The Ocean, Creator, The OSPA Group, this website, etc. It is your choice what "power" you use. It can be the power of the wind. The program is spiritual, not religious, and spirituality is not necessarily defined as believing in God. We can talk more about this if you like, feel free to IM me. I don't at all intend to pressure you to work the steps, but a source of power greater than yourself can certainly be helpful in life.
Respecting your atheism,
luv,
Spring

Hi again! Well, Spring, of course you're welcome to make your own board. Can't there be two? If people want to hang out here, that's great also! This board isn't going anywhere, anyway. I mean, it is free Glad to hear how many have been helped here. I think it's just been a super help to hear that other people have this problem, at least it was for me. Thanks for all the love, guys. Sorry I can't visit more often, I just get so wrapped up in work. I'm kinda one-dimensional sometimes Kathy

I agree with Eyahnah, in that the other website just isn't for me. I don't think anyone minds if there is more than one board, but I'd hate to see this one absorbed into, or combined with that one. I wish I could offer to help with the moderating, but I'm in the same boat as you, Kathy, which is why I haven't posted in over a year! Take care everyone.

Hi- it's me jane and I am the main moderator over at that "other board" I sincerely would like to understand why our someone would say "that the other website isn't for me... .... I'd hate to see this one absorbed into, or combined with that one." i don't mind if there is more than one board, but if we are doing something wrong - i'd sure like to know what it is? thanks. ~jane from www.selfinjuriousskinpicking.com/bb/

Hi Jane, I'm the moderator of the Skin Picking Recovery Board at skinpicking.proboards77.com/index.cgi I think your site is great, actually, especially the e-book that explains how the skin works (that has stuck with me ever since I read it). I can't speak for others, but I just really liked the vibe of this board and it's where I got most of my help, but since new people were having trouble signing up, I think it was hard to keep the ball rolling. That's why I started a new board on this service. I was hoping to give the veterans from this site a place to chat as well as allow for the participation of new members (it was really kind of sad to keep seeing new people ask what to do or where to go. I attempted to contact the moderator of this site but failed, and I considered carefully both options of starting a new board or driving traffic to your site which is by far more active (and in between, I did direct people to your site). There were members as well as myself who wanted to continue some semblance of this board). I had also decided that if I were to make a new board it would require a somewhat new concept (I didn't want to mess with what you have going at selfinjuriousskinpicking) so I came up with the idea of creating a board that better served my own needs. I've been around this community for a couple of years and I am sort of over all of the devastating feelings of picking that many new members find themselves in (I do love welcoming and comforting new members though!) I don't let it run my life and I want to influence others in that direction, because I really believe that it is a healthy, positive attitude that will be the biggest healer of all. I wanted to put people into more of a social situation so they might see that this affliction doesn't make them abnormal (that was the feeling that I got from this board when I first joined and that's what I really wanted to keep alive). I might be misunderstood for this, but I don't think you're doing anything wrong at your site (I'll admit I generally only peruse the support section from time to time), but sometimes people see picking really badly as the end of the world, and I'm sure it is for some, I was very devastated about picking myself when I first sought help online and when I was very depressed I felt great about interacting with others who had similar problems, but I'm really trying to stay out of that world now because it doesn't quite fit anymore and I'm not sure it's good for my own recovery from depression, anxiety, and picking. I just think healthier thoughts are key, though I know exactly what it's like to be so down that putting healthy thoughts or habits seems wrong. This board has gone through its own debate over whether there was too much negativity. I didn't want to try to make a change and step all over what you had made at the same time, so I started something new. All in all though, it's just that people fit in different social groups and have different views. I frequent a certain band community and their different boards are always having spats, which is stupid, but most tend to keep to one side or the other even though they'll read the other ones on occasion. I had some cues from people that they might fit in a different community, and hence the change. So anyway, that's where I was coming from. I should have contacted you before starting the new board out of courtesy, but I didn't, so I apologize for that. I was being shy. As much as I hope my new site takes off I hope that yours continues to flourish and that we all reach our goal to stop picking and reach as many people as possible. You are always welcome in this community (if it sticks around) or the new board. I will be making a website to accompany the new board when I learn to manage time more effectively and if you would like I'd even be interested in setting up some sort of sister-site relationship. I hope that clears up at least something for you. This thread is really old and I don't know that you'll get a response from the poster you were referring to (the moderator had been long gone before the last post went up). If you have any questions you would like me to answer I will check back here or if you want to discuss this in a more private manner I'd be happy to set something up. --Becca
