Hi there fellow pickers. This has been an exciting day for me. After a picking episode this morning followed by the typical feelings of frustration and self defeat I decided I need to do something about "my problem". I didn't even know it had a name. For whatever reason I went to my computer and did a search for "OCD and skin" and there it was... Compulsive Skin Picking. I began reading about it and felt so relieved that I wasn't alone...that this could be treated. I am so over picking at my face. I want to stop so bad but at this point it's become such a habit, if not an addiction. I guess I have to start somewhere. I'm happy that the support is out there.

Welcome, I just recently discovered this was a condition too! Just knowing that might help somewhat. For me it was a huge relief.
Good luck!!!

Hello and welcome to the board. I did practically the same thing when i fell upon this board only a few weeks ago. Picking can really be an overwhelming addiction just like alcohol or drugs. Recognizing the problem and wanting to stop is the first step and a very important one at that. If you want to stop then you will find a way. Just look over the other posts in all the sections to get advice and information to help you. Glad you're here as this is a great place for support and help.

Don't know if you have read about OCD spectrum disorders yet, but CSP is considered one of them. Some also think it is just one symptom, where person's with CSP also may bit and pick at their nails, and pull their hair. CSP is not officially classified as a disorder yet, but I think it will be soon. Hopefully we can all work to dispell the stigmas. Take care eveyone.

I did the same thing. I picked at my face, felt fucking miserable, quite my job the next day, and realizing something had to be done I got on line and typed in "skin picking." I'm over it too.
