I am thinking seriously about going on the pill...but the way my anxiety has been I am not sure if it is a good idea. There's hormones in it and stuff if I'm not mistaken and my panic attacks and picking seem to get worse when i am on or around my period..when my hormones are alll haywire...so i was wondeing if anyone here is on the pill and if there are any like side effects to it ( like emotionally, psychologically)...thanks.

scarreddaisy , i have been on the pill for about 6 years, and it makes my emotions much better. but back then when i went on i didn't know that i had a picking problem, or anxiety (i am now on paxil for slight anxiety/ocd.) i dont think you'll have a problem, but i am no doctor. it does wonders for your periods (makes them very light), decreases cramps, and i cry a lot les (maybe a combo of the pill and the paxil?!?) Good luck! -cuse

hey daisy. most people who take the pill will tell you what cuse said but i know some people who cant deal with taking it and just feel really off-balance when they're on it. most people i know are happy with the pill but be warned- i've researched it heavily and the long-term effects of even a little usage are so scary. high risk of having breast cancer and other cancers by your early twenties. the periods you will have while on the pill will be easier like cuse said but that's because they arent true periods. they are just withdrawal bleeding from stopping taking the pill. just remember this is a very potent drug that will affect your body and health in lots of ways even though that might not be clear right off. do some research. good luck. rabbit.

I agree with Rabbitmoon--do some research, or ask a couple of different doctors what the latest is. I was on the pill for about 5 years (from 30 - 35), and asked around a lot before I went on. Interestingly, from two different doctors in two different states, they both knew of several studies that had completely opposite results. Some said the pill could potentially increase the risk of certain types of cancer, and some said it could potentially decrease the risk of certain types of cancer. Neither one of them was pushing any particular stance on the issue, just presenting what they knew, which was both sides, so it was confusing. The one thing EVERYONE seemed to agree on, was that it was risky if you are a smoker. I think that has to do with increased chance of blood clots in your legs? I decided to go on it for the shortest period of time necessary. I didn't have any negative side effects while I was on it, or after. I also enjoyed the shorter periods, calmer premenstrual days, and virtually no cramps/backaches. So that's my experience. I don't think the patch is any different, still contains the same drug, just administers it through the skin instead of orally. Good luck with your decision!

You should try a low-dose estrogen pill...I have been taking mircette, a low-estrogen pill, for over two years will absolutely no problems. It has actually made my periods much more manageable...less PMS, cramps aren't as bad, and i haven't had breakouts as badly as I used to.
just my opinion, but I would stay away from the patch or the shot...seems less tried and true, and the shot seems like a larger dose of hormones all at one time, not something i would want to try.
good luck, and like everyone has said, ask around, ask your doctor, you may have to try one or two before you find the right one.

I have heard really good things about IUD's. I think that stands for intra-uterine devise. You have it inserted and can keep the same one for ten years, I believe. It doesn't interfere with your system though like the pill or a shot. I forget exactly how they work, but I think they are about 99% effective after you've had it for some time. Look into it, they seem like great a alternative.

Im just starting my third week of birth control pills, and its been insane, ive gone through days of severe depression, ive picked my face so bad that i think i might even skip school tomorrow.....im hoping that if i take it a while longer my hormones will start to balance out but right now they feel way off and i think thats why im picking like crazy, i mean i went on the pill to help my acne (well that was one reason) and now im looking worse then i ever have!
