i've been picking at my face off and on for years, and even when my skin is clear, my scars are very obvious. my normal make up routine is: foundation, powder, a little blush, a little eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. my summer tan is fading, and i need to get a lighter shade of foundation. i thought that i'd try something new. any suggestions? i havent come across a water based product that covers well, and the oil based stuff- although it covers- doesn't help with my shiny forehead and nose. if anyone has found a great makeup- could you give me some advice? i'm way too embarrassed to ask a salesperson at the cosmetics counter, and i don't have a lot of cash to just try a bunch of different stuff. thank you thank you thank you!

I'm not being biased or anything. But I think that Mary Kay full coverage foundation covers very well. (My sister sells it now ) Anyway, I tried it out and I don't think I'll go back to Cover Girl or anything else. Those just don't cover well for me or stay put long enough. I have scars on my face and it covers better and sometimes looks like I have a completely clear face. It's $14 but lasts long and worth it. Just remeber, if you do try it, get Full coverage.

I used CoverGirl Continuous Wear...it covered well I thought. Plus it stayed on all day unless someone punches you in the nose or decides to rub your face with their sweater. It doesnt look really caked on either.

I rarely wear make-up but I've found that Avons Pore-fection(that's the name or close to it) works great even up close hardly anyone notices my pock-marks & mountains.. K.

mac, although a little expensive, makes studio fix which is a powder but it goes on really thick. it doesn't feel like make-up, but it covers really well. it's about $25 for one compact, but it will last a really long time. they have stores in some malls and i think some of the "upscale" department stores also sell it.

Clinique super fit makeup. Absolutly amazing. Pricey, but worth it.
What I do first is get some liquid concealer and dot it over my scars or blemishes. Let it set for a moment and blend lightly. Don't rub it in, that's counter productive.
Then put a strip of foundation on the back of your hand. Dot the foundation on your face and use a damp sponge to blend it evenly. Remember not to blend in an upward motion, that pushes makeup into your pores. Take the heels of your hands and rub lightly along the edge of your jaw, blending the foundation into the color of your neck, you can do this right by your ears too.
Then I proceed with the blush. Because I have a fairly round face and high cheek bones I apply a dark blush in the dip under my cheek bones. Then on the apple I brush a rosy color on. This makes my face look longer and not as round. I also ad a dash on my chin.
Onto the eyes! I use a light mauve/red on the insides of my lids, then I use a darker brown/red on the outsides. This spreads out my eyes making them look farther apart. I apply a highlite under the brows to open up my eyes. Then I have brown liner that I apply to the upper 2/3rds of the lid and the lower 1/3rd.
Add some mascara, let it dry and brush over your entire face with some translucent powder.
Because my lips are already a very natural red I usually go without any kind of color there, however sometimes I do go with a light coat of gloss.

your face and how you present it is unfortuneatly really important. we cant help our picking, but we can help how we cover it. do be afraid to spend a little extra cash on make-up, because it really does make a differece. MAC makes excelent make-up, with great coverage, but it can look a little dry and it is expensive. ive found a system that works really well for myself and others whos make-up i do. i start by mixing two foundations on the back of my hand, one a bit too light and one a bit too dark for my actual face, and that way i can make the perfect color. then i apply the foundation with a foundation brush... these things are amazing and make a big difference. they can be kinda pricey, but its sooo worth it. after ive put on a pretty good layer of foundation (blended well!!!) i cover up spots with a yellow based conceler. dab it on and then pat it in with your fingers. next i powder my whole face and jaw line (blend blend blend!). i know it sounds like a lot of make up, but if you do it right it doesnt look like it. my skin is pretty bad, but with make-up i can make it look almost flawless. oh, also i finish off with blush on the apples of my cheeks, and sometimes some contouring under my cheek bones with a bronzer. the blush is pretty important because you dont want your face to look like its all the same color. i also sometimes add more of the dark foundation when applying it to my forehead. for foundation clinque's super-fit is really good, but pricey. stay away from cover girl and anything too cheap, but if you are going to go to the drug store i trust and recomend alamay and l'oreal (they make a great blush). i wish i could be there to help show you how to apply everything, but im sure you are a smart girl and will figure it out! good luck! <3<3 tellohvision
