TEXT[glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow] Do any of you in this forum have any other habits other than picking?
I dont know wether this is a habit (strange) but i continually bite or grind my teeth to the point where my jaw really hurts. I also wake up with a sore jaw sometimes, which probably means i bite when i sleep as well. I can't seem to stop!
I do this when I am picking and i have come to the theory that when i am picking i am angry or anxious so i take it out on the skin. Thus Bite on my teeth, like when somebody tells u off and u have to bite ur lip or teeth to stop yourself from lashing out!

I bite my nails. It used to be really bad, but I'm a bit better now. I just need to work on it with my face!

I used to have a really odd habit - I still do it occasionally, unconciously, when I get very stressed: I rub my eyebrows against the direction of the hair growth with my finger! ...Told you it was weird! It used to get to the point where my brows would be all messed up and not even growing properly, but I just couldn't stop. I guess that it's an indication that I'm less stressed out now than I was in my teens, though, as I just kind of stopped that naturally and now I'm just left with the picking to contend with - for the most part.

i dont bite my nails... i paint them. its almost as bad as my picking obsession. i paint my nails every day and sometimes 2 times a day. most of the time i pick off the nail polish a few hours later.... but i always repaint them. i paint them so much my real nails are yellow so now its a vicious cycle like the picking. i have to paint them to cover the yellow. lately i have been painting them with this kind of sheer skin color so they just look shiny. im trying to get my nails back to their original color so i dont have to paint them all the time.

HAHAHAHA. yes, i have many bad habits. but i won't share them all there. i have also been diagnosed, misdiagnosed, or under-diagnosed for years. i used to smoke 2 1/2 packs a day but i quit that in 1989, i compulsively chew (sugarless) gum, . . . i actually did have PTSD, OCD, anorexia, and something we have yet to name: it's some distant relative of bipolar or just severe depression. and some other things. but if i say any more, you'll think i'm making it up.
i have played the piano for forty-two years. wow. i didn't even realize it was that long until i wrote it out. i read a lot of books, also.

Hi shihui
That is a condition called Bruxism. It could potentially lead to Temporo mandibular joint dysfunction or TMD for short. This is where your jaws start getting painful and cause wear. I would see a dentist pronto to get a shield to wear at night time before it gets worse. Hope that helps!

hi rainbow yea..imy friend has to wear a shield at night as she grinds her teeth at night too. her condition is worse than me though, causing her jaws to hurt. however, im just too lazy to do anything about it..haha. but i guess your note served as a reminder for me. maybe i should really go get a shield to wear at night when i sleep. thanks so much, rainbow

Let's put it this way, what other ocd habits haven't I had? I had so many habits growing up from obsessive hand washing, to being afraid of germs, to checking and rechecking things, to having to rewrite my homework over and over again to make sure it was just right, to picking scabs on my legs from cuts when I was a kid, to having to put my hair up over and over again to get it just right, to asking something over and over again to make sure I got the whole story right of what someone said. That's all I can think of for now. All these weird habits I had was when I was a kid, funny my mom nor I at the time had no clue that this was signs of obsessive compulsive disorder and my perfectionism.

Oh yeah, and as for now I really don't have any other weird habits other than tweezing my eyebrows. I can get caught in the mirror doing that for a while, whenever I see a stray hair on my eyebrows, it drives me crazy and out comes the tweezers. I get my eyebrows waxed every 3 weeks, but in between those weeks I'll see some stray hairs growing back, which I gotta pluck. It's quite annoying actually, I'm never satisfied with my eyebrows, kinda like I'm never satisfied with my skin.
