Just wondering how it went, getting your nails done. I used to pick my fingers alot. I have stopped but I still pick other areas. I was always worried about what other people thought. I still am, I guess that why I have not used my gift certificate for a facial that my husband got for me!!!

turns out, I didn't get my nails done yet...but i might get them done at the end of the week, so I'm trying reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaally hard all week not to pick or anything. So far I'm doing pretty well, but it's very hard. I try to tell myself to stop everytime I catch myself doing it. It's so hard though. I'm glad that you have gotten yourself to essentially stop...congratulations on that Wish me luck...

I got mine done two weeks ago -- acrylics, nice thick tips -- and while it doesn't stop it completely, it helps a lot.
Somehow what it seems to do is keep me from getting into that "trance state." You guys know what I'm talking about, right? When you really get into it, and you're not thinking about picking anymore, really -- you're floating off thinking about other things.
I can pick a little with these nails, maybe get a blackhead or two, but for whatever reason it's like I don't get the same sensory feedback that I do with my normal nails. It's just not as satisfying and therefore I can actually *stop* -- as opposed to going on for two or three hours.

Your so right about the acrylic nails. My hands never look so good as long as I keep the nails. But once I cut them off and let my nails rest for a while it's back to the picking an nibbling around the nail beds. Till they bleed! I hate it...and then, trying to stop and get them healed so I can go back and have them done again is an on going battle. Sometimes I can pull a tag that makes my finger throb at night once I try to go to bed. I've done this since age 5 and can go for long periods and not do it, then, longer periods of doing it. I just don't know...but, the acrylic nails DO something that stops me from picking..it's just not the same sensation.
