I pick my scalp, especially when I'm reading. Funny enough, I've noticed (and so has a friend of mine who also picks her head) that about 25% of the people in our grad school library do it too! We all seem to do it while we're reading!
Anyway, I've put tips on my fingernails a few times and absolutely could not pick my head because it was just so dissatisfying. You can't do any digging with those things on.
So, even if you don't like the look, it's worth a try. I put short ones on. They looked quite nice too. And, if you're like me, you pick more than just your scalp, i.e. your fingernails, so, you kill two birds with one stone-- you get nice-looking hands and you don't pick your head.
