Hey everyone. I am a huge cuticle picker (fingers and toes) One thing that has been a life saver for me is "Liquid Bandaid" by johnson and johnson. (don't use Nu skin-it stings) It puts a thin film over your cuticles so your sores will heal, prevents infection and makes it almost impossible to pick at. It also relieves the pain especially when exposed to water. It makes them look less red/swollen too. Another trick I do is I put on those antibiotic bandaids right after I wash up for the nite. Try and do this before you sit and watch tv, computer, read etc. This way you can't pick. When I wake up my cuticles are moist.
My toes have been a real mess-way too embarrassed to go get a pedicure. (couldn't anyway with those open sores.) This morning was 4 days since one of my bad toe picken episodes-the sores were healed. I took a large emery board and buffer a did my toes. They look much better.
I saw Dr.Penzel Monday. He suggested I put my tweezers in a 1/2 gallon "milk" container filled with water and then freeze it. This way if you have a real urge to pick with tools you have to thaw out your tweezers first. So you have a good long time to think about it before you do any damage. I also got rid of my steak knives (I picked with them when I had nothing else to pick with) I got rounded edge steak knives so I can't pick with them. So far I have been doing great. Only one pickens on my chin. Don't you hate when you have a painful sore and it is really hot out. It feels like the concealer is melting right off and everyone knows your crazy secret. "oh-look at that huge crater on her face. She must stay up and pick all the time" Meanwhile it is not half as bad as you think.
Anyway, just thought I'd share. Talk to you soon.
