I pick my fingers - cuticles really but its amazing how quickly you can work your way up to the first joint of the finger or just above. Gets so bad that I can't even bend my fingers properly sometimes.
By the way - for those of you that do - how do you pick your back?

Picking your back is as easy as scratching at the bumps, clogs of oil, scabs, moles, etc. I do it with one hand while I drive with the other. I also love to look for the blackheads on my shoulders and squeeze those.

****GRAPHIC MATERIAL!! DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO SUCH!****
[How do I pick my back?Get this-bent over my bathroom counter so my face is right next to the mirror. Then, with my left arm,I bend it behind me at a good angle while holding a hand mirror over my back where the spot is.I bend my right arm behind me and invariably into a difficult angle so as to get a good bite at myself with my curved-tip,rat-tooth hemostats.Nothing like pulling this one off for two or three hours straight. And to think-most people just use their hemos as a roach-clip!Indeed,this is one insidious,ifyouseekayed-up sickness.PS-I contort in any manner necessary to desecrate my scalp,behind/infront of ears, under chin,eyebrows,chest,front/backs of thighs, back of my neck and shoulders.I also specialize in home surgical procedures such as:ingrown toenail removal(can't walk for days)Small lump-on-shin-removal(now when I shave, instead of nicking the little bump that was on my shinbone,I have to throw it in low and take it slow over the fingerprint sized crater depression that I've got now)and,my most recent achievement...home dermabrasion! On my chest! With an electric nail grinder that normal people use for shaping artificial nails!I'm not sure which was worse-the exquisitely excruciating pain during the actual re-planing process,or having to cleanup the bloodspatter that was literally everywhere in my bathroom afterwards. If for any reason someday police have to investigate say,a murder,in this house-they are going to FREAK when they spray their Luminol stuff that makes even old and been-cleaned-up-with-bleach bloodspots glow.I seriously considered posting an inconspicuous note inside one of the cabinets that explained the blood everywhwere, what type it is,and my name in case they need it.It was that bad.And for all you future killers out there-I DO NOT recommend creating a bloody mess, because blood is a real WITCH to clean up,and then the cops are gonna find it anyway. But I must admit, both spots I sanded down are smooth, flat and hardly noticeable!Anyway...color=Pink]TEXT[/color]TEXT

Freaky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You definately have a major problem that I think requires more help than this web site.
Do you want to stop? Good luck with it if you do. What you are doing to yourself is no way normal in any way, shape or form!

jusdewit, I don't think you're freaky. I agree with crane about not being cruel (towards yourself and everyone else I guess) in your descriptions though. I get disturbed by my own behaviour often. Being disturbed by going too far is actually a trigger for me. It ruins my self esteem when I think that what I do would scare people and it's a terrible trap to feel like a freak. It makes me isolate myself and feel ashamed and sometimes it gets so bad that I don't even see a point in trying to get better. I agree that it's better for all of us to not be gorey about things but what ploppy said makes me uncomfortable too because I don't think jusdewit needs to be told it's not normal. I don't think any of us need to be reminded of that. Anyway to change the subject my places go like this: I pick my face when my willpower is low and when I get in the spaced out zone I attack the inside of my lashline and the inside of my nose. The more I resist the mirror the more I will unconsciously start snaking my hand into my clothes and picking my back, the back of my neck and my chest. I've had bad times with the bikini area and thighs but the last year or so have been really good for that. I chew the inside of my mouth constantly but the key to that seems to be that if I don't get enough sleep it becomes a real problem. I think because I'm awake longer to be doing it!

I primarily pick my face, arms, and shins. But I will also pick my back, thighs, and butt if I am really super-bored. The worst part is that I will actually pick my shins with tweezers and a pin to get out ingrown hairs, and end up scarring them really bad.
A couple other people mentioned that they feel confident with their clothes on, but hesitate to get involved in a relationship because they don't want to take their clothes off. I have to tell you, I just got divorced, but for 5 years my husband and I never had sex during the day or with the lights on because of my habit. He had no idea what was going on. Being intimate with someone gives me anxienty, but also I am sick and tired of not being able to wear sleeveless shirts or shorts because of this habit!

While you guys are free to post whatever you like, be careful when posting especially graphic material that others may be sensitive to. I know that we are just trying to share, but much like people who cut themselves can be triggered by graphic cutting stories, people on here may be triggered as well. Jusdewit, I know that you were trying to share, and no offense to you, I just have to watch out for everyone Thanks, Kathy

I had it all listed, but realized I do it everywhere, in varying degrees (lower legs the worst). I don't miss much. The only area I haven't picked at is my scalp. I also chew the inside of my cheeks and the skin around fingernails.

i mainly pick at my upper arms(i can cover that up easily). but i also pick at my legs a little bit, and my face slightly. im too self consious(sp?!) to pick at my face much but when i do its usuall on the left side of my nose(that little crease where your nose ends and your cheek starts. i just recently scard it ) and under my botton lip. my upper arms are covered in scars. does the dry skin around your finger nails count? at times i do quite a bit of damage there. hmm, well i started rambling a bit but oh well. take care. -ambi

By the way - for those of you that do - how do you pick your back? Oh, that a simple one. You stand sideways in front of a mirror, twist your shoulder closest to the mirrior forward and take your opposite arm and reach across that shoulder and voila! I use my fingers in a mock spider motion to get my hand farther down my back. Yeah, I look like I'm made of fricken' silly putty the way I contort myself once I get going.

I pick my: Arms Face Scalp Thighs Buttocks Breats Back Chew inside of mouth
When I was a kid I used to fantasize about being Rubber Woman. This way I could bend and twist my body any way I wanted so I could see all of my body to pick. Has anyone else had any fantasies like this before?

I pick and squeeze my face, arms, and chest until they bleed. I've been doing this for about 5 years and I just went on Accutane hoping it would force me to stop picking. I believe I am very beautiful and many people have told me I could model, but my piles of makeup I spend hurs putting on every day hides the real me. I just moved from NY to FL and I realized I won't be able to cover it up any more. Has anyone gone on Accutane?? And has it helped?

I pick my face for the most part. I don't have terrible acne but at 37 years old, I've had a scab on my face for the last 10 years at least. I've come down from about 10 to one or two at all times. If I have a scab on my legs I will pick at that also. I have a spot that is 3 years old on my leg. I also pick at my cuticles with tweezers. I'm glad I found this site, I knew I wasn't the only one, however I sure feel like it most of the time. One tid bid that has helped me (but obviously not cured me) is covering the spot with a bandaid. Of course I only do this once home since it's on my face, but it helps me from picking at it in the evening.
