Hi- I've been working really hard on habit change strategies. I can go without a big picking session for 3 or 4 days, but then the next day I'll have a huge "binge" and go crazy picking. It seems that not picking takes a lot of effort and then I have a terrible session after a few days of denying myself the habit. Any suggestions?

Minnie, This happens to me too. I can go for a few days, but then I'm back at it again. I try to figure out what made me start picking again, then avoid that situation. I usually find myself in the bathroom, doing some examining, when I want to pick again. I try to shut my eyes and leave the bathroom right away. If I can get out of the house, that helps. You're right. It is A LOT of work. Just keep on keepin' on and take yourself away from the bad situation. AND, no matter what, try not to get too down on yourself. That does nothing except makes you feel bad. Hope that helps. -sunshine-

well it sounds great that you can quit for a few days!!! Some cannot. This is a positive. now maybe after three or for days you examine your face and some new pimples are surfacing. This is probably because a few days earlier you binge picked and spread bacteria on your face. Thats OK now you have to control it for another few days until your skin can clear up the new imperfections. Remember binge picking will result in future breakouts. Just understand that your face will have to have some inperfections while it heals and stick it out. The first few weeks are the hardest. It will not be until after that that you will see improvements in the skin's appearence.

Thank you both for your responses! I think I was mentally setting myself up for binges by setting too-specific goals, e.g. I won't pick for 4 days. That way, I worked like a dog to meet the goal, but then released my effort after "crossing the finish line," resulting in a binge. For the next few weeks, I'm going to try keeping track with the less specific goal of having more good days than bad. I'm going to analyze why I'm more successful on certain days than others. I'll let you know how it goes.....
