I am on my 11th day of no picking or biting lips/inside cheeks ;D. Every now and then I have the urge to pick once spot. I rationalize it by telling myself, it will be just this one and I will stop. The zero tolerance side of me says one will lead to a pick fest for an hour. My question is: For those who have quit for a period of time, do you allow yourself to pick a few here and there or is it completely zero tolerance? I have not given into the urge to pick "the one", but didn't know if down the road I could allow myself to do just that . Any input would be helpful. -tlp11-

Hi tlp11,
Big congradulations on no picking/biting for 11 days! That is a great start and I hope it will continue for you.
I myself never did pure zero tolerance (nor did I try to). I have some acne, so if I got an "obviously ready" one, I would go for it.
Whether I would do a "pickfest" would generally depend on my mood, state of mind (if I was feeling a strong compulsion to pick). What I am trying to say is that if I end up picking extensively, it doesn't depend on whether I pick one spot. If I am not feeling like picking, I can pick just that one spot and move on. And if I AM feeling like picking, I will pick the whole face without it being triggered by picking a spot.
Hope that made sense.
Jules

Hey, I have tried zero tolerance and it doesn't work for me. I would always allow myself to pick just once and there would be the downfall of that. Right now I'm trying to reduce my picking. I have reduced it greatly with therapy and now that my sessions are over, I want to keep it up. No meds, which I like.
Good luck and if you do slip up, don't be too hard on yourself.

I was wondering, as far as therapy, who all has had success with that? and what kinds of methoods your therapyst uses? I am asking because I go to therapy, but compulsive picking is something I haven't been able to really work on, and my therapyst hasn't offered much help in that area, maybe I need to bring it up more since it is a big problem for me, maybe she doesn't realize how bad it is. Can anynone suggest any kind of therapy which has helped them, Thanks:)
