hello there,
it's really late and i really should go to bed but i just wanted to quickly write a message. I've just spent hours reading loads of these messages after finding this site and you all seem really friendly and supportive. It feels so good to finally find people who understand. I pick my face and certain places on my body (just random places for example my knees!) and i pull my hair out (not so that it's that noticeable but i do have to keep moving where my parting is!) and i also have OCD and have been on antidepressants for about a year and a half but am coming off them now (not because i'm better but because i forgot to take them for a few days, turned slightly psycho on my wonderful flatmates and scared myself too much!).
anyway, from my description i seem to be perfect for this place! i can handle a lot of my problems but skin picking is one that really gets me down because i just feel so guilty and ugly afterwards. i've told only a handful of people about it but they don't really understand how difficult it is to quit and so i'm really glad to have finally 'met' people who do. I mean i've just quit cigarettes for 3 months after smoking for 5 yrs and i can't quit this, surely that's saying something!
anyway, i hope you are all having a good pick free day (what's wrong with a bit of optimism?!)
Emma x x x

Hi Emma, know what you mean about people not understanding how hard it is. "Just stop picking" won't help us! I see you're from the UK too- I wonder how many other Brits are registered on here? Good luck with it matey.

You in your final year? Which uni are you at? I'm at Leeds, got so much third year coursework to do there's no way I can physically do it all before the deadlines! Don't have exams though, *jammy git*..sorry!

i'm at edinburgh uni although i'm originally from london. i'm in my 3rd year but it's a 4 yr course (because of the scottish highers system we get the equivalent of 2 first years!). i'm 22 coz i took a year out and bummed about australia for 10 months!
because of the sun and the fact that i went swimming so much that i couldn't wear make-up i decided that i wouldn't! i got on a bus with a bunch of people i didn't know and thought that i wouldn't see them again so it didn't matter! it didn't take long and my whole face had cleared up (i love the sun!) so for about 6 months (i spent the first few hiding from the sun) i was completely pick free and normal looking and it felt great. then i came back to dreary england and yep i started again and it's now 3 yrs later! so i blame bloody england! or maybe it's just reality here!
leeds is a nice uni i was thinking of going there, is that where yr from?

That's weird, I'll probably be doing an MA at Edinburgh in a year's time?! I've heard it's an amazing city. No, I'm not originally from Leeds, I'm from quite near London myself- Maidenhead, about 15-ish miles west of London. I really want to go travelling, I might do that before my MA, not sure yet. Having a year working in Leeds after I finish my Creative Writing degree this June (just to carry on living with my student friends before we all have to separate ). I wish I'd spent my gap year travelling, that must have been amazing! Especially as your skin cleared and you didn't have to cover it with make-up, maybe I'll be brave enough if I travel alone eventually, as you say, you'll never see the people you meet again anyway!
