Can't believe I have found this site, I really felt that I was the only person ever to be so infatuated with picking! So I have read lots of posts here now, but the one thing I still have problems with is why I get the spots on my arms/shoulders/back etc. If my husband gets a spot (which is like maybe once a year if that) he will pick it for a while but eventually it heals up, and my daughter is the same. The worse place for me is my arms, they get clogged pores/spots down to my forearms and I have to pick, pick and squeeze. I have managed after 25 years or so to stop (almost) picking at my face, but mainly thats due to my skin there improving acne wise, I just dont get the spots I used to. I am sure that if there were no spots to pick at, I wouldnt think about it, but I just cant get rid of them. The scars look so awful, and I am constantly amazed at how smooth other peoples arms are, even if they are fat and have lots of cellulite etc! My biggest success is using tea tree oil to try and stop them coming out in the first place, but it smells so bad. Told people at work in the summer when they commented I was using it for an infection in my toenail, but cant use that excuse forever especially as my feet arent exposed now. With winter here at least I dont have to worry about wearing sleeves and getting too hot, sometimes I wish it was winter forever. Anyway, will get back to reading more posts now, at least it stops me looking for things to pick at!

Welcome to the boards!
Some people have a genetic disorder (keratosis pilaris, I think) that causes them to have a lot of clogged hair folicles on their arms. I'm not saying you do, 'cause who knows, but I think I may have a mild case of it. I can't stop picking mine either!
One thing you can do, since it is winter where you are (it's almost always summer here!) is wear those sleaves as much as possible, especially when alone. I find it does help not to have the skin exposed when tempted to pick.

Ditto for me. Elsie, I have the exact SAME problem, although mine is more on my UPPER arms. But I know how you feel when you look at other people's smooth arms, even if they're fat! I remember saying one time to one of my friends that I would rather be fat and have gorgeous clear skin that to be my slender self and have weird-looking skin (which would be gorgeous if I could leave it alone...grrr!)
Later, cool hand luke

I would like to be thin and have clear arms! Guess I better get workin' on both.

Hi elsie and you all. I have exactly the same problem, with my arms. It´s so easy to pick on arms. And I know that I will never get fine arms, because I have big scars and no pigment left. I got married this summer, in a dress with no arms! Of course I had decided to stop picking in time before the wedding. Unfortunately I didn´t make it, I picked my arms in front of the mirror on the morning of my wedding day! BUT, the important thing I want to tell you - I married anyway, in this dress with naked arms, and I had the day of my life! Now thinking about this gives me hope in my worst days. Hopefully my story can give hope to other arm-pickers as well. Take care! Greta

I want to tell you all about what my psychiatrist told me. his son went to the derma for arm bumps and was prescribed 25000 units of vitamin A to take every day for 2 months. it is otc and you have to break for 4 months after the 2 or you could get build up. I am doing it. his son is now clear.
